Greetings guys, I just got off of active duty and have transfered in to the reserve after my 4 years was up, anyway: I need to complete ALS to receive my promotion (I made Staff on active however I didn't stay in long enough to put it on), i've heard of some ALS CDC's that I can get my hands on. Anyone know how I can go about doing this?
As has been said, the Wing trainign manager will get you squared away. Also, if they try and sell you on going to the in-residence course, you do not have to go. The CDC course is in place for Guard and Reserve members to take because the AF knows they have other obligations they need to tend to instead of a 5 week school. My prior unit tried to tell me it will hurt my chances of promotion boards later on with only having the CDC's. This may hold a little truth(and I mean little), but I am gone enough from my civilian employer for deployments and TDY's that I won't choose to up and leave for an optional school. Good luck, study the material, especially the URE's and you will be fine.
Thanks for the information, i'll make sure to talk to the training manager after I inrpocess and get a billion briefings since it'll be the first time i've been to Travis. Thanks.
Bonuses depend on AFSC and unit. You can wait until after you separate to join the Guard/Reserve but it is usually easier if you do it before you leave active duty. Your MPF should have an in-service recruiter. Go talk to them about Reserve opportunities.
If a signing bonus is your deciding factor on whether to join the Guard/Reserves then don't join. It isn't worth the money.
I started talking to the on base reserve recruiter about 2 months before I got out. I felt that it would be easier to get it done with out a break in service. Once I got down to my reserve base I had to reenlist, which I did for 2 years.
No bonus, but the TSGT. slot they gave me made up for it...
