Hey all, I'm looking at some general information. I go to MEPS on the 24th and then get to pick my job, so said the recruiter. I got out the Army as an E-5 and he said I will get to keep my pay grade and come in the Air Guard as a Staff Sergeant. I will however have to reclass and take Tech School. I was previously an AirCraft Electrician in the army and might stay doing that, the tech school for that is at Sheppard AFB. Any information what that will be like for me? Also another concern, I'm filling out my Security Clearance and my finanical situation isn't the best right now, Medical bills mostly, but nothing major, no court procedings are pending on my, i'm catching up just slow process, a small part on why i'm getting back in, extra money, schooling, retirement. What's the Air Force like compared to the Army, got 10 years army so that's all I know. Thanks
Tech school will be laid back for you. You will basically go to school during the shift they assign you and after that you are off - free to do whatever. I went through as prior service in 2002 and it was school, beer, and bbq's. Maids clean your room on a daily basis and more than likely, since you are an NCO, you will have a room to yourself. Beware of the lack of discipline in the kids at tech school! It will absolutely blow your mind, especially coming from another branch that is more military oriented. Dealing with the kids was probably my worst part of tech school. Sheppard isn't the greatest place in the world, but hey, it's temporary. Make the best of it and enjoy the easy money!
