One of the Sgt's at my unit suggested I attend the Airman Leadership School, I really would like to but I don't have the time between work and college. Due to my schedule, he suggested I take the distance ALS courses instead.
I've read that upon completion of ALS the graduate receives the ability to write performance reports on subordinates.Air Force Instruction (AFI) 36-2618. This allows the graduate the ability to supervise. In addition, they rate the Non-Commissioned Officer Development Ribbon.
If I can't attend the actual course but graduate from the distance course instead, will I still rate the ability to supervise as well as the ribbon?
From my understanding from a friend of mine who did ALS by correspondence is that you will still be able to supervise, you just will not receieve the PME ribbon.
In the reserves the difference between going there or not is a ribbon. You need it to sew on SSG, pretty much all it comes down to. Of course you will get more out of going to the school, but I really don't think it is that big a deal.
Sounds great, I really would like to go to the actual school but I just can't squeeze it in. Ribbon would be nice but I could care less, got enough of them. I just want to get promoted and be an NCO again. Thanks for the help PD3rdACR and Daisy336, I really appreciate it.
Me and a fellow airman just completed ALS. She did it at the course, I did the CDC. I think she got much more out of it than I did. The CDCs will put you to sleep.
