I don't mean to be flippant since I do not know the answer to your question, but this does not matter in the least. Money is money no matter where it comes from. When it's there take it (and like you are doing here ask for it) when its not? No worries.
Is there any way to find out which positions are currently offering a bonus without going through a recruiter?
The BEST way is through a recruiter. Don't worry about too much pressure from them. The slots for this FY are probably almost all accounted for. It aint 2005 where there was a perception that the services just needed bodies no matter what and you could go down and sign up lickety split. Ask the recruiter for a list of open AFSC for the base you want to drill at and tell them that you are interested in AFSC with bonuses. I asked when I enlisted in 2008.
Are prior service eligible for bonuses?
Yes, they are. Depends on the AFSC but when you take a look at a list of AFSC it will say whether or not PS can get the bonus.
Thanks. I've been seeing a lot of ads promoting the $20,000 Air force Reserve bonuses so I was trying to find out if any of the positions I'm interested in qualify.
Slots do seem to be few and far between based on the one recruiter I've talked to (TX ANG). I'm going to try for the officer route first and if that falls through then look at enlisted positions.
To answer your first question - Bonuses are based upon the needs of a particular unit. As USAF0331 mentioned, the best way to find out what career fields offer a bonus would be to check with your local Air Force Reserve Recruiter. Finally, prior service folks are eligible if the career field offers a bonus. Remember, what may be a bonus AFSC at one one unit may not be a bonus AFSC at another.
The bonuses are changing on a day basis depending on what positions are needed. You basically have to go through a recruiter to out this info, but the good news is Air Force recruiters have a very easy job compared to other military branches, so I doubt youll ever find one that will ever pressure you. They dont need to! ! !
AF have the hottest women, best food, and airmen are treated very well, so all that adds up to easy recruitments.
I have learned that sign on bonuses are like that special car you see on the commercials at car dealerships that is really cheap. You get there and they had one of them and it sold the first day.
Guard had bonuses for EOD and Feuls but not many positions available. Reserve had them for EOD with no positions available. yet that bog $20K bonus banner stands out like a pimple on the websites. It's all about the marketing
