I will be 40 in March. Is it too late to consider the ANG? I there a limit on how far away you can live from your nearest ANG? Charlotte, NC is a little over a hundred miles from where I live. Any information on these questions would be greatly appreciated.
I am 42 and debated guard or reserve. I have prior active duty service. I will tell you that you are far better off doing it before 40 only because of all of the red tape to re-qualify throughout the physical and with any past medical issues. I am 42 and just signed my enlistment contract with the AF Reserve and I am pretty excited about it. spent six months getting into serious shape and I am ready to go.
You hafta be in bootcamp the day before your 35th b-day for the air force reserves/guard with no prior military experience. Active duty age 28 is the cut-off.

The official age cut-off for the ANG is 39, so you may technically no longer be eligible. However, if you're in peak shape and have a useful skill-set (like engineering or industrial mechanics), perhaps a waiver could be written. Approval of waivers is rare, however.
