I am meeting with a recruiter this week. I am prior ARNG, E-4, Honorably Discharged and I am attending college for Information Systems Security. My job interest is in the IT field. The recruiter is trying to get me into a crew chief or transportaion job of sorts. He is telling me that once I get in, I need to start networking and talking with the people that work in the IT area to get offered a job in the IT field. Is this how it works in the Air Force Reserves or will I be signed up under a particular job and be locked in?
I'm not sure how it works in the Reserves, but in the Guard they have IT jobs that you can sign up for, even as prior service.
My two choices were 3C0 (Net Admin) or 3C2 (Net Infrastructure)
Are you talking about a traditional guard job or an ART position? I'm in the Guard so I am not to sure about the ART program. We have what is called a Military Technician, pretty much the same thing as an ART. Anyway...
You should be able to pick a comm job if that is what you want.

The recruiter that I am meeting with is saying he only has the openings that I mentioned.
If I am insistnat on an IT job (not just one in particular)would the recruiter be more apt to try and locate an open slot?
You can be as insistent you like – but if there are no IT positions – there is nothing your recruiter can do about it. Most communication units are seeking folks who already hold a communications AFSC It is hard for us to even place fully qualified comm personnel.
