Hello everyone have a few quick questions. I'm about to switch to the guard from the reserves curretly I'm a SSgt in security forces. I was on active duty for 6 years and the reserves now for a little over a year. I love SF but time to make some changes for the better. I've narrowed it down to these four AFSC's: 1N031 INTELLIGENCE APPLICATIONS, 2E231 COMPUTER,NETWORK,SWITCHING SYSTEMS, 3S231 EDUCATION AND TRAINING, 6F031 FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT/COMPTROLLER. I have already been told I am qualified for them, now just trying to decide which one. My question is how long the tech schools are? The recruiter is getting me the answer of how long the tech schools are but won't here from her until tommorow. Second is if your one of these AFSC's, what you think of it? Thanks everyone!!

Hope this isn't too late, but my advice is to take the job that appeals the most to you. You may want to consider looking at the manning documents in regards to how far you can progress in those afsc's within the Guard. Many max out at Master Sergeant as potential or even lower. If you aspire for the top you have to keep that in mind

Since you are crossing from one branch of service to another you may want to ask if you are getting a bonus. 1N0 is on the national list. I would ask your recruiter to talk to his/her Retention Office Manager (ROM) to figure this one out. It may be possible. There is more math involved but it may be possible.

A late posting, but for the benefit of all.

First- Check the manning doc to see if the max grade for that career field stops at E-7.

Second- How many slots are authorized in your unit and if they are filled. Red flag if they are not filled over a long period of time. The commander may want YOU to do the work of the other three authorized slots that he/she will not fill to save money

Third- Does it deploy a lot? You may have a hugh backlog when you return.

Fourth- Is there a bonus?
