I signed my contract and swore in last Tuesday. The question that I have is whether or not this is final. I am not saying that I want to back out, I am just curious as to whether or not I can still change my mind. I have a college degree, just graduated in July, so this is a pretty big leap for me considering I have other options. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Your in the DEP Program which is a inactive reserve and can change your mind up until ship date when you swear into the active component and sign off on the final paperwork.
So NO this is not final. You swear in twice. Once into the DEP and a second time into the Component your about to serve in on the day you ship. The second one is the one you have a lot more difficulty backing out of.
In the 1990's I used to support the USAREC computer system and you can even backout after you swear in the second time before your in transit to the Airport. It's a huge mess because your records are locked to changes and some of them are in transit by that time to the Army computer system BUT I have seen that done before. When you back out after the second swearing in.....everyone despises you including the computer programmers.
This question has been answered many times over. When you enter the wannabe forum click on the tab that says "find" under "keyword search" enter in "swearing in" or something to that effect. It will populate a list and you will be able to find the answers there.
I used that tool to find information about my MOS 18X and a few other topics. In this situation I was not able to find a suitable answer through the search function. I apologize and thank you for the answer to my question.

You're going 18X and you're thinking about quitting before you even swear-in and ship to OSUT? With that mindset, you won't make it past selection.
You have no idea what my situation is. In case you were wondering my parents are divorced and my mother has stage 4 cancer. She takes care of my 13 year old brother and it is extremely likely she will die within the next 5 years. My father is also terminally ill.
Besides it is a huge commitment and once I leave I will give it my all. I can accomplish anything I want to accomplish. Believe me.
My mom was diagnosed with cancer and was operated on for it while I was in Iraq. I didn't ask to go home. Mission first. If you can't make that commitment right now it probably IS best not to go in yet.
Does it make a difference if you are National Guard versus Army Reserve or Regular Army? The reason I ask is because the Army uses different dates for the soldier's pay and ETS based on which they are. In the Guard and Army Reserve, it is the moment you sign the contract.
Despite the slight thread jack, I'll help you out and let you in on what I know For Active Duty, my ETS is four years (enlistment length) from my ship date. As for pay, it's the 1st and 15th of each month from my understanding though the initial process makes things a bit wonky depending on what day you get into the system at Basic. Any incorrect information, please let me know as I'll be going through the process in 10 days!
