Alright, I am currently a senior in high school. I am planning to go to a four-year college and going through the ROTC program to become an officer. I want to be able to go in and eventually become a member of the special ops.
Now I am unsure of quite a few things in the process to eventually fulfilling my goals. so let me start with the questions. 1. If I go through ROTC and become commissioned into the army will I go through basic? 2. Will I be able to pick what Job I want, such as corps of engineers, aviation, or infantry? 3. What is the likely-hood of me getting the job I pick... would things like knowing how to pilot an airplane, being bilingual, or having a good gpa effect the likely hood of me getting the job I want? 4. Can I sign up for ranger school, sniper school, etc. for extra training? 5. is it possible to join spec ops right after being commissioned? 6. I have this really bad fear of wasps and bees, does that effect anything? 7. there really isn't a question seven, I just like doing numbers. Thanks in advance for all the help... sorry for having a first post that is full of so many questions. |

You do realize that you will be living outside with all kinds of critters crawling on, biting or stinging you right? |

Wasps and bees are good eats.
Remove the stinger first. All your questions have been answered before. But, I will get back to you when I am fully awake. |

Well get over it quick , because if you don't like bees , you're going to hate the ranges at Benning.

Yes. It means you either get over it or you're wasting your time. I would get over it before you go anywhere near the military. Otherwise, people will mess with your until you're committed to a mental institution over it. |

1. You will not have to go through basic, but you might consider joining the Reserves or Guard any way....can help with paying for school, giving your more money monthly and prior enlisted experience can be valuable to you when dealing with many of the NCOs.
2. You will submit your wish list for branch and based upon performance(GPA, Camp Score, etc) you will be placed on an OML and they will assign you a branch based on availability when they get to you on the OML. 3. See 2 4. During ROTC, you may be able to get Air Assault, Airborne, Mountain Warefare, Arctic Warefare...Ranger and Sniper are highly doubtful....but I do know one cadet that was allowed to go to dive school due to a trial program....so you never know what may pop-up. 5. MAYBE in a support role(IE: Quartermaster, AG, etc)....as far as being a PL with the Ranger Regiment, nope(must have some time under belt to apply)....Special Forces...nope, must be an 0-2(P) or O-3 to apply...other groups....not sure about(ie: 160th SOAR, AWG, USASED) but I am fairly sure they look for experience and a high level of success first. 6. You need to get over it if it is JUST a fear. However, if it is an alergy...you may be a medical DQ. |

I went through 2 years NG and 3 years Army and nobody bothered me about it. Eventually, they will find out but really they don't care. Wasps and bees are attracted by perfumed soap and deoderant as well as perfumed beverages (Orange Soda seems to be a favorite). Stay away from that crud and they generally stay away from you. You'll learn this stuff once your living outside for a while. |

Some guy played a bad joke on your Grandpa when he was in the Army more then likely. Best not to disprove this belief so he doesn't get upset about his past. |

Usually, by the time you get desperate enough to do it, you aren't excreting body fluids anymore.

I Googled and it's in a Army FM as saying NO-GO. If you think about it it would only be a short term measure at best because your concentrating the wastes your trying to excrete and as you become dehydrated more concentrated. I seem to remember something about human urine, I thought it was used in sterilization or cleaning a wound in first aid though. Too far in the past for me and I never went through survival school. Sure am glad I preceeded the "Battle Buddy" era. How do you tell your friend you just peed on him? |

My Grandpa wasn't ever even in the military. >_>
Anyway... as I said before I am going to be an 0-1 via ROTC, and I have a question or two more, thanks for helping me out. How hard is it to get into infantry? and can I request a duty station, if so what would be the likely-hood of getting into Fort Bragg? |

Infantry: In last years accessions you had to be either in the top 20% in the Order of Merit List or between 50 and probably 60 some % in the Order of Merit List.
And you can request posts but from what I understand its Needs of the Army. |

No, but you will go through something similar with yor peers called BOLIC.
You will be able to put in a "dream sheet" of what you want to be. No guarantees.
Yes, but remember everyone else wants the "good jobs" as much as you do.
Infantry officer usually get Ranger School after finishing 11A. Officers are not "snipers"
You will have to awit at least three years to make CPT and to apply for SFAS.
Don't eat one or pick a job that requres you to spend too much time in the woods (e.g. SF). |
