Joining the military has always been in the back of my head. Something I never acted on for different reasons at different times.

However, I recently had a major **** up. I understand that I made a huge mistake and wont deny it, I know what I was doing was wrong and was acting like a scumbag.Hell, I wasn't acting like a scumbag; I am a scumbag. Now I'm looking to make a major change in my life for the better.

I figure joining now (if i can) would be the best way to get my life on track and push me into adulthood. I plan on talking to a recruiter soon but won't have a chance till next week and am dieing just to hear something about my odds of enlisting.

I HAVE A CRIMINAL RECORD.
Theft 3rd- as a juvenile, shoplifting. completed diversion program.

Just recently charged on 10/25/09 with:
Poss. Marijuana under 40grams
Minor in possession of alcohol
Theft 3rd
Car Prowling

I haven't been convicted of any of these yet. I was hoping I could maybe lay-out my situation and intent to enlist to the judge, prosecutor and maybe have them conditionally dismiss the charges if in enlist within X amount of days with the option to refile if I don't.

I believe all but the Poss. of marijuana under 40 grams are gross misdemeanor and the Poss. is a misdemeanor.

My question is will the Army even think about touching me. I understand that I will most likely need a waiver even if the charges are dropped.

I won't touch the issues of waivers, others are certainly more knowledgeable than I. However, the economy isn't good and the military can afford to be pickier than before. That being said, if you ally want to join the military, ou need to do the following NOW:

Stop using drugs.
Stop drinking under 21.
Stop stealing.
Stop hanging with thieves.

oy vey......
Well teh Army won't touch you no matter what if you have open court charges/cases. Plea bargin as you need to with the DA. If you serve time, not sure what Army does....might be ok if local time and not state time. You wont be allowed to join while on parole/probation. All fines/court costs must be paid off.....which in your case might get up in the 2 grand range...just guessin..
Get straight with the law. Get stright period. Might be putting off joining for a while.
Good Luck .. SSG Mike

Sounds like you are wanting to scam the system to get out of charges.

No, the Judge will see through you.
No, the Army doesn't want or need alcoholic thieving dopers.
