Hello everybody,

Well, I've officially did it. I swore in on Thursday, and picked MOS 91A (M1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer).

My ship out date is 20100223 to Ft. Knox, KY.

I have a couple of Misc. questions, and I wont waste anybodys time and start right off. My 1st question is to just kill my curiousity because I've heard many things, and not because I am actually thinking about doing it.

1) Since I am in DEP now, is it STILL possible to change your mind/change MOS. (Again, I am not thinking about doing this, I would just like to kill my curiousity).

2) I received a "Future Soldier Identification Card", USAREC Form 1134. What can I actually do with this?

3) Anybody have experience with Ft. Knox BCT & AIT? How is it?

4) Anybody here a 91A (formerly 63B)? How is day to day? While deployed?

5)TRICARE for family members. My wife is curious how it will be for her and our children while I am active duty? I've again seen different responses. Do they pay for 100% of Medical Expenses?

I think that's about ti for now. I am sure I will have more questions soon, and I will just either update this (if it lets me) or reply.

Thank you all so much in advance for any knowledge you might be able to share.

In response to #1, the answer is yes but probably only change your mind once.

Answer to #2 is probably nothing. Probably just to get you into Federal Buildings for MEPS screenings and such. I think you need a Army issued DoD ID to have a real ID. It's Green if your Active Duty, Red if your NG or Reserve I believe.....if they still issue those.

ErichG2:

No the colored IDs for AD Servicemembers went away. Only dependents have colored IDs now. My wife and kids have brown ones that look like the old IDs. Currently AD Servicemembers have the Common Access Cards (CACs). They have changed from the first edition CACs that were service-specific. Now they are generic, say "Uniformed Services of the United States" and lists the branch almost as an afterthought.

PressureX:

To answer your question about TriCare... Once you get to Reception and go through inprocessing, you will do DEERS registration for your dependents. Bring their SSNs with you, as you will be asked for them. Once enrolled in DEERS, your family will have full medical coverage. You also can opt for the Dental program, which is like $27/month. Once your dependents get their IDs after being enrolled in DEERS, they can use post Medical facilities.

Good Luck and Congrats!

Thanks guys for the responses so far.

Mad Matt, does the dental program cover 100%? Do you know? Reason I am asking is right now we have insurance through my employer, and let me tell you ... they still want $1,000 from my wife to have her wisdom tooth removed. Thats almost 3 weeks of paychecks, lol.

I don't know offhand. The program is through Concordia Dental. Each service may have co=pays, but they are likely less than plans available to civilians.

PressureX,

Like ErichG2 said, you can use the ID card to get into federal buildings and military bases. However, I also used mine to cash some bonds I had before I had my DL. I believe that it carries more weight than it is given credit for.

Those are the names of the hills you have to road march up. I was at Ft. Knox for 2 years as a civilian only.

It's kind of nice post, not as nice as Ft. Campbell but nicer then Ft. Benning. Of course you won't see much of it.

You will also freeze your arse off in February and March and you will probably see snow then. April and beyond is nice though.

Can't tell you about the training.
