hey, im currently enlisted in the coast guard, wish i had joined the army. so now im wondering if there are any programs or any ways that a coast guardsman can switch over to army, i dont care about losing rank or anything, i just wanna switch over.
You'll have to wait until your current term of enlistment is up. About six months out, you can contact a recruiter - they have "Blue to Green" (guess they'll have to change that to "Blue to ... a different shade of blue") program for Navy and AF types who want to switch over, so I imagine much of that would apply to you. Most likely, you would not lose rank. Might have to be retrained into an Army MOS, though.

What about the DD368 form? i recently found out about this and im curious as to how it works and its effectiveness?
The DD368 is a conditional release form allowing you to join the Army with the approval of your command and the Coast Guard. I used it to go from the Navy Reserve to the active duty Army. So you see that trade up was justified as I told the Navy I wanted to go full-time to support the fam and they had nothing available for me in my job active duty back then. As for an active duty switch it's doubtful. You will probably have to finish your time. If you were applying for say Warrant Officer Candidte School in the Army you might get it approved but that's much harder a program to be accepted into. Talk to your career counselor and an Army recruiter about your options, can't hurt.
Also, your command career counselor should be very well informed and able to help you out. Fill out the information request form and you should be good to go for getting started. How far along are you in the process of applying?
