Ok, I am just a little confused here. It seems like some of the women who are the ombudsmen over the wives on bases are not actually enlisted personnel. Is this true? Or just the way I'm seeing/reading things?

They are spouses and serve as a liason between spouses and the command. There is a school they are supposed to attend to fill the role, and are normally a more senior spouse who knows the ropes alreay.

I have never seen one who was also active duty. Sure it could happen, but I doubt it.

They are not normally in the military. As Catherine stated it can happen but usually they are just spouses.

Been through the school myself and all 3 levels of Army Family Team Building.

of the 15 or so in my Ombudsman class.. one was an Active Duty Chief..because her CO told her she was going to be the ombudsman( there were no volunters from the command's spouses.)

the rest were all spouses. some of us were Enlisted spouses, some of us were officer spouses and three of us were male spouses. some of thenm also had on base jobs in their own right as civilians.

all of us had been around the game at least 5 years. Most of us had been dependents far longer....
