Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why we call it the present.-by Eleanor Roosevelt![]() |
I was just informed by my partner that we weren't supposed to have been voted into this position. Because neither of us are Officers' Wives.
With that being said, the last FRG Leader had said seeing how the incoming commander was a Bachelor, and that the only active component at the time of the FRG were spouses of enlisted soldiers, we needed to vote some one into the position. I am trying to find some information as to what is required to being an FRG leader. Because the spouse of the Batallion EXO had said that it was necessary to have an officer's wife as one of the leaders. So does that mean we give up the position of leadership and take another vote? Or what? Please direct me to some printed rules on this matter so I can actually have something to look at and use. Thanks! |

I've never had a FSG leader who was an officer's wife. |

In the Navy the CO's wife, XO's wife and Master Chief's (E9) wife can't be leaders, they are advisers only.
Usually for FRG they don't want an Officer's wife to be the leader as there is more enlisted personnel. They could have an Officer's wife as the Vice President or something on the board. But it honestly can depend on the person themselves. our last FRG we did have an Officer's wife as President and she was awesome. |

Wyld hon, your co-leader is totally incorrect! ANYONE, regardless of rank of the spouse can be an FRG leader. There is nothing in the regs that states "Only officer spouses' can be...". No where.
Your XO's spouse is stating a preference, not a requirement. Sounds like SHE wants to be the Leader and is uptight because no one suggested/voted her to be it. I have an officer spouse as a leader in this one. Her husband has been both enlisted and now officer. She has no idea what she's doing, but she's learning as she goes along, she's totally open to suggestions and learning....I think she's doing a really good job. I throw ideas at her all the time too! lol... |

uh NO. In fact I woudl go so far as to say HELL no. it is preferable for FRG leaders to be ENLISTED spouses. Reason being.. more enlisted personnel who woeul be intimdated by having an O spouse as their leader.. feeling that they cannot go to them ro express any criticism for fear it will back fire on the servicemember There can be no freedom without sacrifice |

Wyld, the FRG Leader handbook that I emailed to you a while ago should state in there the requirements of the FRG Leader. If it's not in there, please email me and I can find you the document you need as "proof" in writing.
As the others have said, your spouses rank or class has nothing to do with your qualifications as a leader or any other key volunteer position at that. The Secret in Happiness is not doing what one likes, but in liking what one does. ~ James M. Barrie |

Thanks everyone!
I'm sorry I didn't get back as soon as I could have. It's the heat that is keeping me away from the computer As for the handbook, I got it Lady! I guess I should look it over. I think I've got a hard copy here with me. I think I'll flip through it. I was doing the FRG Leader training online. It's been laggy so I haven't finished it. The XO's wife, she's from the Batallion FRG. So she wouldn't have been able to be in the position in our battery level FRG But thanks for all the input. I just needed to make sure that I can find something in case someone decides to pull one over us |

You don't have to be an officers wife to be a FRG leader. I am an FRG President and my husband is enlisted. Matter of fact our whole FRG board is made up of enlisted sailor's wives. I would keep your position. If you were voted in then that means the members of the FRG felt you could do the job. Good luck to you!!!
