I can't speak for Dave, but I'd tell you that permission is not needed to join this "chat". There are some other PTSD forums that require you to "prove" you belong there, but not here.

If you think you have a problem, might have a problem, know somebody who might have a problem, or just want to help us, you are very welcome here.

In order to have full access to this forum, read the rules Dave posts at the Top of the Forum lists.

We don't want fights or arguments. Were here to help each other. We accept other peoples problems because we have our own, and believe me, some of them are doozies!!!

From drinking, drugging, fighting, road rage, isolation, depression, anger, paranoia, health problems of all kinds, spouse problems, kid problems, parent problems...... there is someone else here dealing with the same thing.

Join in and ask your questions. If you feel you can contribute, and help another person on this forum, that's great. In time you will be participating and helping others, trust me.

We all came here like you, scared and not knowing what to expect. Most of us really didn't admit we had problems. The more we learned, the more we saw our issues, and the more we understood PTSD, the better control we took of our lives.

Tell us something about yourself so we can help you. Are you a Vet/ Young? Old? Did you just get back? Have you dealt with the VA yet? Are you still in the service?

Let us into your life and there are a lot of people here who will try to help you.

Welcome,

Bill

Glen, I just saw your profile. I was in Artillery units myself. Bio Chem sounds tough. You must have been a good NCO, you got the ARCOM and the Good Conduct ribbon and others. You'll fit in here fine.

Hi. I'm new to the forum and do not know if this particular question is appropriate for this forum so please bear with me.

First, a little history.

I am 56 years of age, a Vietnam Vet, Naval aviation side and currently a member of the California Army National Guard and have served one tour in Iraq,2004-2005.

I filed a claim with the VA for PTSD and Hearing loss and was informed today that I have received 30% and 10% respectively for these conditions. In the packet I received, under the heading "What Conditions Affect Right To Payments?" is listed "Receipt of active duty or drill pay as a reservist or member of the Federally recognized National Guard."

What affect will this have on my payment and how do I inform them that I am still in the National Guard? I ask because the packet only provides forms for dependent education benefits, etc..

Thanks,

Francis Shaw

It is an appropriate question.
You need to see your veterans service officer to assure all is completed properly. You need to notify the VARO of jurisdiction you are active drilling in the Guard.

What happens to a Veteran who has a VA rating of any percentage for IU and then they reach the minimum retirement age when they would most likely be too old to get a job or most likely forced into retirement in most of the labor market for example age 65?

Social Security bases their benefit amount for retirement on the last few quarters of their working life wages. If they don't work then their SS retirement check won't pay the light bill. If the VA just cuts them off, then they need to know that and plan to save what they need in later years?

First it is not a bomb, it is a good question, thanks for asking.
Age currently is not in the factor for IU. It is rated IU if the service connected condition in itself prevents the veteran from gainful employment.
An example is if a veteran is rated 70% disabled for heart condiiton and that condition is NOT service connected, the VA will normally deny a new claim for a 70% service connected issue of PTSD (or any other). Why? Because the not service connected heart condition prevents the veteran from gainful employment. BTW I just last week obtained IU for an 80 yo WWII vet. Is that shocking? To some it may be, but due to his PTSD, he can no longer work in his business. It was due directly to his PTSD.
As stated above "[A]ge currently is not in the factor for IU." However that issue is being discussed among some politicians, who are interested in saving tax dollars.
