Probably just poor research, inaccurate journalism, and shoddy editorial processes. Happens a lot, especially from young journalists who don't know much about the military.

Wow, A lot of response to this issue. I'll just re state what a lot of you already said Commander, I applaud you for responding and showing class. Those of us on the outside generally have no idea what really happens on the inside and it is really none of our business most times. Now the old man that ran the new MACKINAW into the dock and partied a bit too hardy more than likely could have used a few discussions early on in his career and he might have saved it.
