It's very tough to behave for any extended length of time in So East Alaska. The area attracts "risk takers". Good luck to all you Coasties and especially you Coasties in the far north.

Dick,
How did we jump to AK? Anyone in a "Command" position will be required to take a 'risk' at one time or another.. Hopefully his/her supervisor will understand the need for the risk, and it was one that should have been reasonably persued.

Wray;
Refresh my memory please. Which one of the list of RFCs were in any way attributed to 'taking a risk' at all much less one that could be argued to have been reasonably persued?

Hey Wray,
I was referring to the change in command in Petersburg that's mentioned one page back.
I should have cut and paste to make that point clearer. My other thought was that those surrounded by risk takers take more chances personal and professional themselves in life. Again , only an opinion I have from my own experiences.
Peace,
Dick

And you can now add a D9 and a D13 Station to the list.

Are you referring to the Cape D ----> D13? If so, that's on the previous page..

What's new with D9?

Jeeze, what happened in those districts? This is getting a little absurd now.

464 Stations & ANTs in the CG. TWO LISTED THERE. That is 4/10s of 1 percent! Lets say TENS TIMES that many happen in a year. That is FOUR PERCENT! How could that level even be considered absurd? Does anyone really think that more than 99.5% of the people selected to be in COMMAND actually perform in a way that shows they should keep that increadibly high level of trust & responsibility? Lot's of things happen to very good people that affect their decision making and actions that although may not reflect poorly on their character or aptitude that are ABSOLUTE reasons to remove them from the position of Command.

Heard it had to do with gun decking quals

Readiness just seems a stretch to me. I'd bet 8H, money or 'Command Climate' stuff that was reportable by 'less culpable' folks who were relieved who should have reported up the chain and failed to do so. (Total guess, I know nothing but what is here)

It was the Station

I don't know any of the details in this case, but as a general observation, I believe gun decking quals can bring down more than 8H, which usually is only a few people (sometimes more, but won't go into that here!).

It can question the funding and accredidation/certification of a unit. People may argue why would someone do that, but we've all seen someone get signed off because of who they knew, not necessarily what they knew. That may work fine . . . until their metal is tested and lack of judgment or experience becomes obvious. Then it can hit the fan and roll up hill! If there's an accident with property damage, people hurt or killed, or damage to community relations/public scrutiny, an investigation is required.

Freds Place home page has a link to the Daily Astorian article concerning the relief. Standard generic PR press release. Not sure about what the last esntance in the middle paragraph and the mention of the Lieutenants rank as petty officer means ??
