Hi Matt:

I remember you always did have that great outlook on things. Give me a call sometime. (I'm not hard to find) Best wishes to you and your family.

Sir,

Just wanted to say publicly that you were the finest CO that I have had the pleasure of working for in my 17 years. As your XO, the things you taught me about leadership and management were invaluable, as was the career advice you gave me that landed me in my present job. It would be my pleasure to serve with you again, anytime, anywhere, and having spoken with the crew, I know they feel the same.

Best of luck to you and your family. Enjoy the vacation!

Mike

I needed to say that. While I am truly saddened by LCDR Smith's relief, which led to this discussion, I have been happy to see the civil nature of these posts. They are in direct contrast to many of the others in the RFC threads, and I would like to think they are a reflection of LCDR Smith's example.

Mike

Edited to correct spelling. Guess I'm losing the XO touch...

No doubt it takes a great amount of courage to do what you did. However, unless you have a guardian angel I see today's CG (Officers Corps) marking you as "damage goods" from now on. Not that I agree, but it is what it is. Good luck in your future endeavors.

For all to know....

I am currently the deck BM1 onboard the Mobile Bay. I just want say that it was an absolute pleasure and an HONOR to sail with LCDR Smith. No one knows what he meant to his crew and what the Mobile Bay went through in the last year. Mr. Smith was first a human being who cared about everyone. He was often in conversation with E-2's and E-3's just to see how they were doing.

The knowledge I gained from him on the bridge and with my college studies, I could never repay him back. He gave me the confidence to drive a single screw ship. I have been in for thirteen years and never met such a knowledgable person on all topics. Sir, I will miss those WWII discussions.

It just saddens me that Mr. Smith and the crew have to go through this. He is one of a kind. The crew and myself wish him the best of luck.

Mr. Smith if you read this, ANYTIME AND PLACE I will sail with you again.

Hmm "deck BM1 on the Mobile Bay" and his first post... perhaps hasn't had a chance to complete the profile, but hardly anonymous. Big Grin

PS Very nice posts from the crew and LCDR.

You could have said the same thing to the BM1 via a mil.com e-mail. There was no need to call the BM1 out in public.

Bad form on your part.

Ditto. Having no name didn't take anything away from his post and I'm sure the "intended audience" got the message . And THAT'S all the matters. Applause
Nice from the heart post BM1. Beer

Off topic a bit: Can people still spend the night(s) at Sherwood Pt. Light house? It was "manned" when I was on the MB. A BM1 ran the place with a Mk3 and SN. Then last I seen, it was a “recreation quarters” ran by Sta Sturgeon Bay.
MB and the Sta use to have water fights till the OINC’s window was open one warm summer day and we dumped a “few” gallons of water in the window Curse from our fire monitor(s) aka CANONS (by accident ofcourse Roll Eyes). Needless to say, that was the end of the water fights coming and going into the canal.

So-

You are willing to communicate through a public board in order to express disapproval of a person's anonymous profile. Your willingness to do so is a result of the lack of a name in their profile.

but

You are unwilling to communicate through a 3rd party e-mail relay in order to express disapproval of a person's anonymous profile. Your unwillingness to do so is a result of the lack of a name in their profile.

In either case, you are communicating. Why is public (board) okay and private (e-mail) not okay? Confused

All due respect MC, his post was directed not at you so why do you give rats rear who he is. As long as the LCDR knew, that is ALL the REALLY matters. Might be my opinion, but in this case, I think your in the VAST lower half if not 2% of the minority this time. But in the end, you nor I really matter on what we think. His message was delivered ZBZ5 (L/C). Whisper

Ummmm I don't want to take away from all the nice thigs that have been said about the former CO by his former shipmates, but it does beg the question....If he was such a stand up guy(as it appears from his supporters) then what was the issue that brought his ability to effectivley command into question? I know it has been said that the unit "went thru a lot of stuff over a period of a couple years" but from the sounds of it, at least what I've read here, he seems like the type of guy the USCG would want commanding one of their units? Am I missing something? -Jeff

Last I heard it is still a moral cottage. That one and the Rawley Point light. I may be mistaken but I think you go through the Sector in Milwaukee and pick up the keys from the Station. I am going to try to use it next winter.

My family spent a week at Rawley Point a couple of summers ago, and had a great time.

Sherwood is a MWR cottage, but not in the Sector Milwaukee AOR.

It seems Rawley Point, Pt. Sherwood, and Pt. Betsie are all in the Lake Michigan area.

A little research should comfirm this.

Linda A. at Milwaukee is the POC for the Rawley Pt. Lighthouse cottages.

TC1 -- > His post was made on a public forum.. one in which people share comments.. one in which putting your name behind your comments adds creditability to your post...

If his comments were only intended for his CO to read, I think a personal letter, delivered by the USPS would have been a better choice.

Jerry --> Not everyone here is authorized to use "global".. if we were your comment would be "nuff said" ... since we dont'.. it's NOT "nuff said"...
Please try to think of everyone before you make comments like that.

I was only stating MY opinions, not those of everyone.. please try to do the same.

... for some people. Not everyone needs a name. I would suspect a lot of members don't even bother looking at profiles.
