I have been searching around the net and can not find any info on what the CG is doing in Iraq these days. Most of the stuff I find is from 03-04. So if anyone can give me an update that doesn't violate Opsec, it would be greatly appreciated.

1.Do CG units deployed to the Middle East take part in training the Iraqi navy or is that just the US Navy that does that?

2.Is it just PSU's and 110 ft cutters in the gulf or are there any Coasties that are actually deployed on the ground, inside Iraq?

Thanks for the help.

The C5F/USNAVFORCENTCOM website is where you will find many PA releases for most of the USCG forces operating in the AOR and their exercises/ops (w/ the exception of RAID teams which are under Army TACON).

As military assistant to DHS I wasn't with a USCG unit, but did enjoy a six-month deployment in Baghdad (to April 2007) as perhaps the longest-serving enlisted Coastie in Iraq.

RAID teams do a great job there, and they don't have the comforts I was given: free laundry; my own room with "in-hooch" Internet, satellite TV, VOIP phone, and A/C-heat.

I'm assuming you volunteered for that. Thanks for serving. Glad you made it back safe.

My son keeps asking to be sent.

The RAID Team is actually very busy in and around Iraq. I just want to send a hello to all my fellow Raid Team VI Members who just returned, and prayers to the current Raid Team VII who are over there.
