I see that the U.S. House of Representatives, by a rare and unanimous vote of 426-0, has approved a bill to provide better oversight of the Deepwater program. Perhaps the Coast Guard can take the credit for getting all of those squabbling Democrats and Republicans to finally work together on something!
The skeptic in me wants to see how this bill fairs in the Senate side of the dome, especially with those who are overly protective of the industrial facilities in Pascagoula, Mississippi (Trent Lott being one of those Senators).
M Wood, perhaps we'll never be able to find out why (or how?) this bill never gets anywhere in the Senate. Perhaps it will be derailed behind closed doors as a few powerful Republican Senators make a deal with the Dem leadership.
I may be wrong but I believe that Senator Trent Lot will be using the power of the filibuster in protecting the t*i*t of certain corporations which feeds him and keeps his campaign war chest full if there is the slightest bit of perception of the loss of power and funding by these same corporations.
All politicians are the same. Protect what is yours and to H#@! with the rest of the country. I wish they would think globally, not put off what they know they need to do. I am becoming an advocate for 'throw the B%$% OUT'
Trent Lott was the reason I ended up in Pascagoula, MS instead of Pensacola, FL when they were trying to figure out where to homeport the east coast 179's. Alot of us got suckered in when they posted the billets in DA with a homeport of Pensacola. I hate that guy.
