There's not enough information to be totally sure about this but... I believe the individual's children are entitled medical and dental care. I'm pretty sure the ex-spouse lost her entitlement when they divorced. That's how it worked for someone I know in the same situation.

I agree but maybe the mom needs to check with the Coast Guard. They'll have that information.
When my husband died everyone asked me if I'd remarry. Not on your life, he was the best thing that ever happened to me, on the other had if I remarried I would lose benefits.

Children, yes but the now ex-wife is no. Although that just means that she has no Tricare entitlement to go along with her loss of entitlement to an ID Card. But depending on how good of a lawyer or what the final divorce decree says he might well be on the hook out of pocket for her coverage.

It depends on how many years ex-wife was married to him. Best to check with personnel office! Cool

Yep, it depends on how long they were married over the course of the active duty career. The Ex could have Deers coverage for up to year after the divorce became final. All depends.

The ex could have coverage forever. Like you said depends on the length of the marriage overlapping service.

Armyjunk-- bottom line, your friend needs to talk to a lawyer who has dealt with military divorces in the past. There are some state laws that might be particularly screwy on this issue-- things that have to be in divorce decrees, specific motions that need to be filed, etc.
