Thanks for the course correction Master Chief. It still sucks to be told you can't do something. Can't isn't a word that fits well into my vernacular. It's enough to drive one to drink! Angry Whip Beer

Starting to think I would have been a better fit for the Guard in the 50's & 60's when it wasnt quite so PC.

The year before I made CWO (fourth try) I received a signed letter from the President of the Board, stating I "lacked the qualities desired of a CWO." Since I was working in G-Pdp-1 (the Deputy, Office of Personnel and Training Budget Staff) someone from PO gave me the "skinny" - maybe those Page Sevens for drinking (this was before there were Alcohol Incidents) had something to do with it.

So - a letter to the next year's board, a glowing recommendation from the boss, (and putting on the Anchors) and I made CWO off the next list, June 1, 1991. In November, 1991 I went to the Naval Alcohol Rehab Center at NAS Miramar...haven't had a drink since!

You adjust to a civilian job by reminding yourself that it is better than being on a “white one”.

Have to explain “stand fast” to your non-military co-workers.

Refer to your lawn mower as CG “cutter grass.”

Tell your kids mess cook horror stories when they complain about their food.

I still use “Good copy on all; over” when on the phone.
“No ma’am, I’m not the bus driver”
