We've done much worse before. They remind me a lot of some of the Army recruiting ads.

The one thing I really didn't like is that the male and female add are the exact same thing except for the person talking. They almost get hit by the same car, they jump the same creek etc... A little variety might have been nice.

I'm not particularly concerned if I don't like it... It's not aimed at me. They aren't trying to get me to join the CG. This is targeted toward someone 15-20 years younger than me. I'm not going to pretend to know what works for them. It looked pretty cool to me... But it's not for me. It's for someone else.

Until the guy/gal got to the coast and was wearing ODUs, I would of thought it was for the Army.

Actually after seeing it the first words I said to the guy sitting across from me was "Looks like an Army commercial".

Is there a public site where civilians/hopeful future Coast Gard members can see these videos?

"I wasn't born to sit behind a desk" is how it opens up???? Are you kidding me?!?! You may not have been born to sit behind a desk but you had better choose your rate very carefully or you end up behind one for the majority of your career!

Good Advertisement: As a teen, back in the 60's, I saw the movie "Onion Head, starring Andy Griffin. Decided when I turned 18, I was going to join the Coast Guard and serve on a buoy tender.

Did you see the Spanish version? Its the same commercial just dubbed in Spanish. I wonder if it will attract any non-english speaking applicants. That otherwise couldn't be reached.

"We" doesn't always include me... Wink

When I get those recordings to push "1" I simply dial "0"... I let them know why if they ask..

The saying goes... "When in Rome do as the Romans do"...but.. I am not in Rome.. and I am NOT in Mexico. They need to do as "I" do...

Wray... Cool

I though it was very well done! So much so that I'm about to get up from my cubicle @ HQ and go run through traffic because "I wasn't born to sit behind a desk" I might even run through the country side until I get to the ocean. On second thought.....I guess I'll continue to save the world one e-mail at a time, I think there might still be some doughnuts down in the dining facility. Roll Eyes

Seriously though the ad is well done and I think it's about time the CG has a real commercial that's on par with our DOD counterparts. It certainly isnt any worse than the "Army of one" commercials from just a few years ago. Wink

Cheers! Beer

Yeah, good for you. I hate it when those damn Germans Irish Italians Chinese Mexicans come here and refuse to assimilate.

Applause

Wouldn't surprise me. I'm also surprised that we arn't required to have the "Press 1 for english" on our auto attendants. If that was the case I wonder if an IT set it up to disconnect the call if anything but 1 was pressed they would get in trouble... Dvlish

His point I am sure was not that they have to completely assimilate into American culture, but at least give an attempt to learn our language and customs.

I know for a fact that if you do not even attempt to speak Spanish in Mexico they get very offended, and rightly so. I know some Mexicans living in the US that are more likely to spit on our flag then they are to speak a word of English, and yet we bend over backwards to make every thing as easily and effortless for them as we can.

I personally would just like some effort and the respect to at least trying to learn our language and ways as many foreigners have (including lots of Mexicans)and the way any American should do if they move do a different country.
