I posted this in the BM thread as well, but...

I have recently been hearing several times that the CG is going to drop the current height/weight standards, and move to the BMI, which is a very inacurate measurement.

Has anyone heard about this or have any details? It seems to me that the majority of the CG would fall into the overweight category.

Check it out...

I did mine (not that it matters anymore as far as the CG cares) but I'm right at the line of being over.

Next question, they seem to go after "fat" people. Has anyone seen anyone underweight FIRED for being so? Do they get 2x the BAS allowance? Up till my 10th year, I was always "under" my minimum for HT/Wrist/WT or whatever they used. Not a thing was ever said. Guess I presented a "smart military apperance" vs some donut chomping RM/TC with a belly hiding that pretty brass buckle. Granted, there are some puggy types out there but look at the root of this. Feed us good, but don't MAKE us do PT unless your on the LE crew. Instead of waisting time on the pier, make everyone run a few laps around the parking lot. Mad

TC1, just curious about something... I can certainly be educated. But I've ran the weight program at several of my prior units, and I've never seen this minimum... I thumbed thru 1020, and I don't see it... Am I missing something?

As for us going to BMI, I don't see that happening. I haven't heard that rumor. But I've also been in the CG long enough to know how much stock to put in rumors! Hmmm.... ZERO! As a whole, the medical community is moving away from the BMI measurement.

I recall there are weight minimums for entering the CG, and I believe also in the physical examination standards; these can be found in the Medical Manual

This has been an issue for the CG ever since I was in.. I have seen several programs introduced, then $hitcanned... Much of it has to do with the Commandant.. Lean little ones like Yost get hot on it... Chubbier ones (I won't mention their names, tend to skirt around the issue... particularly if they have a chubbie MCPOCG...

I feel your pain. I am 6'2" and weigh 229 lbs. Body fat of 13% and I too am OVERWEIGHT! Are you kidding me! I could not believe what they were telling me. I was like, "DO I LOOK OVERWEIGHT TO YOU"! So for the average person it would work yes, but for many others, not a chance. Back to measurements please.

Chuck

When I think of overweight Coasties, you dont even make the list. How the crap does this happen? To be totally honest, I recall you being the only person I recommended a 7 for in Health and Wellbeing in 11 years of doing evals.

Something is wrong with this system.

The BMI is just a fancy version of the height-weight chart since those are the only two variables that factor into whether you are considered overweight, obese, etc. based on your BMI score.

It could also be because many of us retirees have completed our well rounded careers. Smile

I LOVE WEIGH IN DAY!!!! Boys, get ready because this is the day that you can proudly proclaim that 1 inch made the difference....

Got weighed in today, right after my good buddy MK3 type did yesterday. We might as well be twins: same neck size, same wrist size, only he is 1" shorter than me as well as being 3 years younger. Low and behold, he made weight & I didn't.

I don't get it. Neither one of us is over 30. His max weight can't be that much more than mine, and I promise by looking at us both he ain't at 23% and me at 29%. I swear we could pass for brothers.

I don't get it. We even got weighed by the same guy! Mad Can ya'll tell I'm frustrated?
