While I am glad that the U.S.Navy finally has the overdue recognition that it rightfully deserves, I wonder if there was any mention in the ceremony, or on the monument, to the U.S.Coast Guard's contribution to the landing forces in the invasion?
http://www.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=40043 "This operation proved to be the largest operation in human history, and none of it would have been possible without the United States Navy." http://www.navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=64647 At least we should be a footnote! http://www.uscg.mil/history/Normandy_Index.asp This message has been edited. Read about The U. S. Coast Guard at Normandy by Scott Price of the Coast Guard Historian's Office. I worked the Joint Information Bureau at the 60th anniversary observances in 2004 and was truly humbled to be in the presence of so many honest-to-God heroes. -Jeff |

That was interesting, I didn't know about the landing craft off loading troops when they were way off shore..

My ex wife's father Edward A. Tucker was a skipper of one of the 83 foot Patrol boats off Normandy On D'Day.
He was a surf man before the war and was a C.P.O. in command of that boat I believe. I tried to get this info to the "Matchbox Fleet's" web site a year or so ago when I became aware of it's existence, but the old boy who was webmaster was sick and I believe subsequently died. So I had no luck in contacting anyone. Does anyone know if the site is still up?? And, if so what the U.R.L. might be?? Thanks in advance....Tawodi |

My uncle was Chief of Boats on the HUTTER LIGGETT. He carried landing craft during WW2.
