Kind of off topic, but I can remember, or actually will never forget, the pink-belly I got for "initiation" on the 180 in the late 80's. A bucket of ice on the bare stomach to numb it up, and then the slaps. My stomach was black and blue for about a week. No reprecusions for anyone involved.

There's lots of people I would take a swing at for only $10,000.

What happened to the days when the BMC would take the smart azz seaman up to the paint locker for a bit of, em, EMI? What is interesting is many of those seamen went on to have fine careers after being "redirected" in the paint locker. I guess some psycologist decided that 3307's and paper trails are much more effective than the paint locker these days. Yet I remember the work ethic and respect factor being much greater 20-25 years ago. I wonder what changed?

That is true. A little fear of what could happen if you screw up is healthy. It makes you cautious.

First of all, don't make assumptions, your wrong in the thought that it was some young punk with no respect for authority. I am currently on the boat and know the whole story. The kid did nothing wrong.

Well Senior Chief, why not fill us in...... If the kid did 'nothing wrong", then why did the Captain slap or punch this kid?

Something doesn't add up....

I've been wrong before though maybe.

steelerfan07 - in my opinion I am going to go with Pat Flynn; what the Captain did was wrong, he admitted his mistake and requested retirement. Why make the remark you made; regardless of who it was it was wrong.

Because of this comment "GJD

Mark was suspended for 10 days for posting outside links which were not endorsed by Mil.com. He replied to that suspension with an obscene email to mil.com. I must inform all that Mark Woods has become the latest member permanently removed (banned) from posting on Mil.com.

This thread is closed."

on another thread I was thinking maybe we should not post links to outside news stories. If I am mistaken, please school me on what outside links are endorsed by Mil.com and which are not. Are news stories acceptable? Are only links to alternate boards such as USmilnet taboo?

Maybe because the MKCS is not accountable to any of you here?

1110, you are a trip.... we are all smart enough, although you don't believe it, to fully realize that....

You should also realize that the MKCS posted on here of his own free will.... Once he or anyone else does that, as the forum name implies (Point - Counter Point) they are all opend up for questions on this public forum...

But thanks for sharing your "opinion" with us... Wink Razz

No, rather, it seems he saw an inaccuracy so he smacked it down. Looks like he arrived "just in time" too.

Well, now that it has been "smacked down".... he has an opportunity to enlighten us...

I'll take a quote from your favorite thread.....

"Please let "Xxxxxx" respond since he seems able enough to recently post about this topic. I would hate to think that "Xxxxxx" has to rely surrogates or proxies to answer this matter. "

Maybe you should take the advise..... Razz

Wray,
The roving watchstander recieved a bad pass down from the roving watchstander he relieved and ended up in the wrong spot at the wrong time. As for the Capt, he snapped for some reason that is not known. That is the whole story in a nut shell. This kid did not deserve what he got and the CO even admitted to it. That is all anyone needs to know of what happened. From one Chief to another, I am not going to drag anyone thru the mud any more than they already have been.

Mighty,
I would accept your offer to get hit for a fee so you could collect a nice retirement. But no court would ever accept that an OS could hit a BM and live! You will have to keep serving, and get that retirement the traditional way.

Dick - uh, maybe before you were born......

I think a certain General from WWII has the "Patton" on this! Smile

I happen to be named after said General. There hasn't been a more aggressive or better military commander since. While I may not agree that slapping is a good motivator, a good boot wedged between the @$$ cheeks on occassion, to correct major 'eff-ups', seems like a good idea sometimes, but, alas, those days are long gone.... Probably true. However one OS smacking another would be just fine. I will volunteer. Come on MC, you know you want to smack me anyways, this is just a good reason.

Militia's right on on this issue. If this had happened in the civilian world, there would be lawsuits and assault charges. Even with the hefty fine, there is a higher standard for senior personnel...kind of like for cops who violate the law, they tend to get hammered harder by judges. If the roles were reversed, the enlisted man would be sitting in a cell awaiting a courts-martial.

Maybe in the future the J.A.G. lawyers could use this case to help an enlisted person get off easier? Thus helping the enlisted man ??? Smile

If it was me that got slapped by the CO (and I'm sure my last CO really, really wanted to hit me), I'd be in the VA office the next day with my claim for mental illness, and a great story about how I was 100% unemployable because I could no longer trust authority.

Catch 22...

You'd be putting your trust in the authorities at the VA.

(Sorry, couldn't resist!)
