We became accustomed to those little pop ups triggered by mousing over green highlighted words (although I haven't seen many [or any] of them lately).

And the "Moderator Spamming" controversy has kind of died down...

What's going on with these occasional big pop up ads appearing from the bottom of the screen? They seem to appear randomly (or at least for no apparent reason), and go away when one clicks anywhere else on the screen. I know I'm not the only one getting them, and getting annoyed by them! Curse

I run a pop up blocker and spyware on this machine, but these pop ups are not deterred. Anyone else having the same problem? Can anyone explain why we're getting them? Note that it's only on Military.com that they are encountered.

Let me know.

I get them too, though not as often as it used to happen.

Hey George,
I was hoping you got the e-mail. I don't get these pop ups anymore but I don't remember how I stopped them or why they stopped?
Be well,
Dick

Running Firefox here for a browser. Downloaded the Ad Blocker plug in and have not seen them since; here or on any other web site.

I'm not sure what Explorer has that would cure this.

It's more likely that Explorer would cause it! Eek

Amen!

All those "handy" features, at no extra charge.

Google Toolbar. Never get popups. Just turn the annoying sound off in the controls.

I'm running the Google toolbar popup blocker. It show "358 blocked" -- but doesn't stop these random ones on military.com. Confused

Not harmful; just very annoying.

geejaydee,

I don't see (nor did I when NOT a mod) any pop-ups on here. I have MS Windows XP, Home Ed., Ver. 2002, Ser. Pack 2 on a Dell Dimension 2400 w/Pentium 4 CPU 2.66 GHz and 1 GB of RAM and Internet Explorer.

I have Pop-Up Blocker set to "Yes" and enabled on Medium level (blocks most).

Internet Explorer will not block pop-ups from websites that are in the Local intranet or Trusted sites content zones. If you want the pop-ups from these websites to be blocked, you have to remove the websites from these zones. For more information, see "Understanding security zones" in Related Topics.

I didn't start seeing the pop-ups until I upgraded to Norton Internet Security 2008. This new version leaves out the ad blocker program that previous versions had.

I use IE7Pro, which is a freeware program that you can download here: IE7Pro Download. It does a lot of other things, so pay attention to your choices. I have that adblocker checked, and it's the only adblocker I use, and I haven't gotten any popups or underlined key words at all.

I downloaded it. Good results.

Its built-in on-the-fly spell checker is also a nice touch. I haven't tried any of the other modules.
