During my 4 yrs on active duty, when a urinalysis was given at my various duty stations, I never once saw an Officer tested. It seemed like the junior enlisted corp made up the majority of the selectees for a random drug test. My question is: Are Officers, especially high ranking ones like 0-5 and above, tested for drugs? I know some of you will say, yes, everyone is tested, but are they really tested? Has a Commandant ever been given a urinalysis?

My O-5 went right before me the last time I got selected. Seen many O types as well as GS-13s have to go.

Absolutely! Any Coordinator who would do what you suggested is failing in his duties. And any officer who would ask for such treatment is not officer material. Has the Commandant been tested? Well, I don't know... You'll have to ask him.

But I have personally coordinated the testing of O-4/5's... And have seen O-6's standing in line right along side me.

And I second that...

I remember a boat-load of 0-5's and 0'6's getting it and also the D14 District Commander...

You weren't on independent duty were you?

During my last four-year tour at Cape May my number(8)came up at least a dozen times. Toward the end I wasn't worried about drugs, because I have never used them. But the simultaneous weigh-in did get a little scary, because I'd started gaining too much weight.

I've been tested about twice a year since I've been out of the academy...seemed like even more often when I was a cadet.

Well, maybe I can help you with that one also! Of course, I can't speak for the entire CG, but at the last four of five units that I have last been assigned, I was the Weight Coordinator. And I can without hesitation assure you that in those cases, the rules were maticulously applied. Ordinarily, I would ask the CO/XO/CMC to be at the head of the line, with the Chiefs with their divisions. I never once had the least bit of heartburn with this. At least not with the officers... The occasional Chief would try to pull a fast one, but even as a First Class, I had complete confidence in the CMC's ability to assure compliance.

As my units UA Coord. guy, I can tell you that ALL members get a chance. There are various means to ensure fairness and all get their time with the bottle.

If someone decides to excuse certain members, they should go back and reread the regs...

Yes indeed! I used to sing "Moon River" for the hesitating ones.

Reading the regs has nothing to do with it.... most know the regs, that is not the issue... following them is....

If you think everyone steps on the scale, I think you need to take a walk around HQ....

Can't speak for HQ... Never been assigned there. But I can speak for NESU Alameda, MSRT Chesapeake, PATFORSWA and my unit in just a couple of months. And we were at 100%. NO EXCEPTIONS.

I have taken a whiz quiz multiple times as an officer. The reason you see more junior enlisted taking a urinalysis is because there are more of them. They make up the bulk of the service.
