You need to explain more. ie, if you ignored a person sleeping on watch, I would tell the CO he should crush you more than the person sleeping, say if they were on medication that made them drowsy.........

PersMan Chapter 20, para 20.B.3.d.2

Members refusing to undergo treatment, failing to complete treatment, or violating an alcohol rehabilitation aftercare plan normally will be separated from the Coast Guard.

Your story sounds to me more like you have a hair up your nose w/ her and your Command. Nevertheless, double standards are like discrimination. They are real. They are part of life. Anyone who things there is none, is because they practice discrimination in their own way. Studies clearly show that women get paid less than their counterpart men. Is that double standard?

Kelly Tilghman (The Golf Channel) was suspended for two weeks after saying during the golf season-opening tournament that young challengers to Tiger Woods should “lynch him in a back alley.” But a week later, Golfweek magazine published a noose on its cover to illustrate its coverage, which caused another round of criticism. The magazine editor, Dave Seanor, was fired two days later. Many feel this is double standard. I don't, but that's my opinion.

There has always been a double standard!!!
I know it and everyone else knows it. Every unit I've been too there have been men that treat women differently and women that love to be treated differently. I honestly believe many women know that if they shed a tear or play dumb, it can get them what they want, depending on who they cry too. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it's the reality of the Coast Guard and probably all branches of the military.

What kind of leadership are you exhibiting when you got "sidetracked" and then forgot it.

How can you complain about double standards when something is not reported?

Sounds like you did not do your job and now you are crying about being held accountable by your command.

I have a female friend who retired from the Coast Guard. She did her job, all the razzing didn't faze her, she retired after 22 years.

Years ago, my husband got a call from a CG woman who was jailed for drunkeness. She was with 3 men who weren't arrested. My husband went down to Longview WA, and talked to the judge, my husband said 'that is discrimination and a federal offense' The woman got off.

It's not the CG t has a double standard it is America thathat has a double standard. I think we do better than most.

If you really feel you've been mistreated take it furhter up the chain.

Otherwise you are just crying.

This is not in any way a case of double standards. As it should be, there may have been different standards. I assume you are in a leadership position of some type, which in itself requires higher standards. Even if you are not, with that data, it seems she had a MEDICAL based event of relapse, you had a lapse of CHARACTER. I feel safe in saying that neither I, anyone on this board nor anyone at your command believes 'you got sidetracked and then forgot.' The remaining choices are integrity or character.

I'm not saying there are NEVER any cases of a double standard, but sometimes there are things going on that subordinates do not know about. There have been several times in my current position where subordinates question why they are being "singled out" when in fact others have been addressed about the same or other issues. Supervisors usually don't announce to the worker's peers issues they are having with them in particular.

During my time in the CG I was fortunate enough to work for commands that treated everyone fair.

While onboard my old 378' I had a female messcook who kept shucking off her duties onto the other guys (she was the 1 female of the 6 messcooks)

When I questioned her about it, she said she couldn't do that (take out heavy trash bags, lift stuff, get dirty, etc.) "because she was a girl." I lost it and unloaded, as professionally as I could, on her. I wouldn't accept that answer because it wasn't right. She cried, literally. After that I wasn't so much as allowed to write her a page 7.

Less than 4 years in and she's being promoted to OS1 on the first. Curse

She didn't have the guts to fight it out.....she didn't belong in any military organization. She played on her femaleness and it didn't work. Just like some women I know, they blame everyone but themselves for getting into deep doo doo
Take personal responsibility. Roll Eyes

As long as there is a male sex organ and a female sex organ, there will be a double standard...Always has been and always will be...
