Since all the talk of WW has settled down, anyone wanna discuss the E-10?

Is that the answer to the joke "what do you get when two e-5's get together"? I'll bite, lets talk about the E-10.

Are we getting ready to pre-appoint another one without a package or screening?

I don't own one of these E-10s, but maybe we can P/CP it:

The E-10 again.

The origin of the term "E-10" gets a bit more confusing and so far has been fairly tough to chase down. But the earliest reference so far, that I've run across. From "ALL HANDS", a U.S.N. information magazine, November 1980, interview with MCPON Crow concerning pay issues.

The NCPON passed on, "but I damned near have to be an E-10 to make ends meet in the Navy and that’s pretty bad."

The inference I get out of this comment, is that there is no pay grade E-10, just the wishful thinking of a E-9 trying to live on the pay in the DC area at the time.

Could it be that the term , from that interview in a Navy magazine, is just something that stuck, hit the fancy of the JOs and and PAs ??

VOILA - a new pay grade, and fodder for BS sessions is created ???

Kind of quaint that the CG can create an enlisted grade senior to the highest enlisted grade of the other four armed forces.

Wray should be chiming in here any second, but I believe, from many previous discussions, that E-10 is NOT a paygrade. The MCPOCG is categorized as an E-10 but in actuality is an E-9 with "special pay".

Wray....am I right?
