If he had parents and if he had a wife they were all devastated. They got a medal and they'll hang it in the living room but they will griev for the rest of their lives. R.I.P.

Gotta question...

I thought this guy was a Lieutenant when shot down. Can you be promoted while MIA? Confused

I am glad they finally found him, and the family can have some closure.

I was wondering that too, nekron99, because I knew the story and remembered he was an O-4 when he was shot down. One of the newspaper stories yesterday mentioned that for more than 10 years he was listed as M.I.A., then as M.I.A./Captured, both of which apparently allow for promotions. Over the years he received two promotions to the rank of Captain before being presumed dead. Small consolation for everything his family has gone through, for sure, but no doubt it has helped over the years...

He was LCDR when shot down. And, yes, while in MIA status, you continue to be promoted along with your peers. You also continue to draw pay, etc. (remember that come November and 4170 time!!)

I had the distinct honor of taking my 12 year old son to review the procession at Cecil Field where he was stationed. I thought it was time that my son know what a real hero was about.
