Can be ranked by any criteria (e.g. Best assignment, best location, best crew or best AOR) and its not required that you have completed a tour there. Curious which ones repeatedly show up.

My list of top 5 best units

1) ANT Honolulu, HI
2) Station Panama City, FL
3) Station/ANT Pensacola, FL
4) Station Dauphin Island, AL
5) Station Manistee, MI

Most desired, from what I hear, there is one that repeatedly stands out.

1) Station Lake Tahoe

The Coast Guard has changed much since I retired 15 years ago. However, all things considered and the state of affairs had remained the same since 1993, here would be my list of five (if the Radioman rating still existed):

Any WAGB
Any WLB in the 17th or 14th Districts
Commsta Kodiak
CAMSPAC Point Reyes, CA
ACTEUR London, UK

Absolute least desired duty station: CGHQ Washington DC Razz

2- Any HEC
3- Isolated Loran
4- Between those three, I don't think I need a 4 and 5

I've been retired a long time, but if...

Any WYTL
Any WPB 87'
Any WPB 110'
Station Fort Lauderdale
Any unit in Maine.

Isolated Duty; no way, no how. A BM is like a fish out of the water there. Been there, done that. (Sitkinak Island, Class of 1974-75.)

Regardless of duty station, the crew is all-important.

Hey man ... I might as well be doin' my Julio Inglesias imitation "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" ... they were all great.

On a separate, but related note ... I spent so much energy trying to avoid places like San Fran, New York City and Cleveland. Now, I'm older and wiser ... these are all GREAT TOWNS! There is so much to see and do ... especially enjoying Cleveland right now. My advice for Coasties is don't get locked in a mindset ... if you like fishin', certainly go to Grand Isle or Alaska ... but the rest of the Service ain't so bad either.

Though it was a good station, I found myself bored at Station Merrimac River, MA only because we handled something like 35 cases all year.

I had a blast as a Cox'n down at Station Islamorada, FL Keys since we handled something like 350 cases per year.

Now I've only been to a few Air Stations but if I were assigned to Clearwater, FL where I have been many times, you wouldn't hear any complaints from this happy guy.

Interesting point, anyone know what unit has the largest SAR case load in the CG? AOPS has to be good for something.
