I was on a 44' MLB that escorted her in the day the Brazilian freighter hit her by Outer 10 off of Nantucket. The crew did a great job keeping her afloat. I think the Pt. Bonita was the 82' WPB and I want to say the Vigilant did the first part of the escort. We caught up with the Hornbeam somewhere near Edgartown.
I see the Hornbeam on occasion when visiting Domino Sugar, she's moored right next to the facility in downtown Baltimore. She looks in OK shape, definitely needs some TLC.

Its about right for her size and age. In addition, a lot of money will have to be spent to bring her in compliance with existing domestic and international regulations.
She's been by Domino Suger for quite a while. She was moored next to us (Tamaroa) in April of 02. At that time she looked in great shape. We left Baltimore in October 07 to pursue our dream in Virginia.
I see a lot of 44s being used as pleasure craft now. Does that strike those of you here who spent time on them as a bit strange? I mean, when the weather gets tough, there might be few if anything better, but a pleasure craft - seems odd to me.
This aside, I often thought of converting a 46' Bouy tender into a house boat. It was fairly stable, great deck space and had a pretty shallow draft. Love to find even a picture of one now.
