We make 70 a month payments to irs as well. these are our bills, no car payments nothing else, my paycheck is 740 after taxes. is there any help or hope for us, i have no more drills until oct and Title is in the works, I have contacted Bob Larson, but money will run out before that could even take place, Thank you for your advice and help.

If your a reservist, couldnt you qualify for a CG Employee Assistance loan? I cant remember the name of the program, but most CG sectors offer it.

Anyone have any more info to help this shipmate out?

Thats it, Mutual Assistance, and look at this:

How can CGMA help with expenses caused by the current economic crisis?
Current economic conditions may lead to job losses in some Coast Guard two-income families. When the loss of a job causes a hardship for our clients CGMA can provide temporary emergency relief while the family seeks long term solutions. CGMA is not financially positioned to provide a regular monetary stipend to replace lost income.
CGMA can provide loans to cover such bills as mortgage or rent, utilities, credit card, gas, food, clothing, etc. on a month-by-month basis. Repayment may be delayed for up to 90 days, or longer, as needs warrant. A decision by the Board of Control (BOC) would be necessary if need exceeds $5,000.
Professional financial counseling can aid families in understanding how to deal with their changing financial situation. CGMA has agreements with NFCC and their member agencies to provided professional financial counseling at no cost to our clients.
Coast Guard members receiving Permanent Change of Station orders, who own a home that must be sold, may find themselves in a financial bind where the market value of their property is less than the amount owed on their mortgages and the cost to close the sale. CGMA can provide loans to help cover a seller’s closing cost, limited to $5,000. Needs greater than $5,000 would have to be considered by the BOC on a case-by-case basis. Affected individuals can also consider obtaining a personal loan from a financial institution or renting-out their property.
Clients may find that they can no longer afford to pay their monthly mortgage and fall months behind in their payments. CGMA offers certified financial counseling and other resources through the NFCC Homeowner Crisis Center.
Coast Guard members renting may receive an eviction notice where the homeowner is about to lose the property to foreclosure. CGMA can provide loans to help the client establish a new residence.
In addition to CGMA the Coast Guard or Government may have additional resources with which to help Coast Guard people with regard to these situations. ALCOAST 453/08 and 538/08 discuss some ways in which the Coast Guard as well as CGMA can help.
In all cases, clients may contact a local CGMA Representative for further information, counsel and assistance.

Great news! my wife starts a new job this friday! I am happy because I know the mutual assistance only has so much budget to spend, i am healthy and so is my wife, I would rather someone who has a family and in worst scenario use the money than myself. Thank you for your swift responses, thats just another reason why i re enlisted for 6 more years.

Something to think about now that you got close to needing help from CGMA:

Did you know that CGMA is not 'government money?' Did you know it was money that your SHIPMATES took out of their wallet and put 'in the hat' in case someone needed it? As you get back on your feet, think about that real hard. Think how much you can afford to chuck 'in the hat' each month. To be blunt, think how much of a schmuck you would feel like if you choose NOT to put anything in, and then end up needing help.

According to the latest annual data (2007) available at the CGMA web site, 62% of the contributions were AD and 1% Reserve. Of the grants and loans distributed, 83% ($3,408,974) went to AD and 3.6% ($145,880) to Reserve.

Not these days! 6 years ago I was paying just over $1800 a month for a 2 bed apartment about 30 mins north of Boston. It all depends on where you live on how much the rental market goes for.

I can confirm the cost of rent in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.

I had a 900sq ft, 2 bed 2 bath apt for 1700.

I do not miss the cost of living in that area.

I used Mutual Assistance once. Got in a car wreck as an E-2/3, needed help covering the deductible. Ever since then I have always made my monthly contributions.
