I know now of day these types of things are not liked to much. Putting all that aside I was just curious if there was any one from the Coast guard present or past that has successfully worked for one? whether it was a instructor or mobile type job. I have been looking into the applications and noticed its mostly special operations and such type qualities that are needed. But how the coast guard is shaping up and beginning to carry the same units. I know being in the marines, army, or air force is a typical back round. just looking for some good info.

I worked as a civilian in Iraq for a year and knew some of the folks that worked for various security companies.

It is EXTREMELY unlikely that your CG background will get you into one. Most that I met were ex-Special Forces, ex-Recon Marines, ex-Seals.....

Your profile has me confused. On the one hand it says you are active duty, but it also says:

Are you still in or not?

Enlisting in 2006 will put your eighth year through 2014.

When were you planning on joining one of these elite units?

Had lunch last week with an x-army dude that did three tours as a contractor, mostly body guard assignments. I forgot what company he worked for but he had nothing but bad things to say about blackwater. He got hurt on his last tour. He was airborn as well as a ranger while in the army.

He's opening a survival and small arms training school in New England.

I think you mean anti-terrorism. Counter-Terrorism consists of operations that include the offensive measures taken to prevent, deter, preempt, and respond to terrorism. Anti-terrorism is defensive, intended to reduce the chance of an attack, using terrorist tactics, at specific points, or to reduce the vulnerability of possible targets to such tactics. None of the units you listed are conducting offensive operations regardles of the fevered imaginations of some.

As I posted earlier, it is highly unlikely any CG experience will get you into one of those companies.

Most I met had combat experience.

Likewise... I know several people that do and have worked for Blackwater and a number of others that work for similiar companies. Some work as trainers; some work as assets overseas.

Interesting. Are they working active security in Iraq, or here in the states in some other role?

Of course everyone knows a CG GM can do ANYTHING...... Big Grin

No, I am not working stateside, I am working actively in Iraq. Previously I was on a security gig and now I run the armory for another company here in the IZ. I also play back up for the PSD team when needed.

I have been doing this since I got out in 2005.

Mike,

Just finished my R/R and damn, it went fast. Got back to B'dad on Wednesday. Take care.
