Here we go again. Who said it was a "she"!
March 6, 2008 CAPE MAY, N.J.—Officials say a company commander at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May is accused of sexually assaulting a recruit. more stories like thisPetty Officer 1st Class Wilson Medina has been reassigned to new duties at the Coast Guard's only boot camp. The 36-year-old is charged under the military justice system with forcible sodomy and abusive sexual contact. Officials say the allegation stems from an incident in Medina's Coast Guard housing unit in November. Medina and the recruit were off duty. Authorities tell The Press of Atlantic City they launched an investigation after the recruit reported the incident in December. The recruit's gender and name have not been released. ------ Information from: The Press of Atlantic City, http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com |

I heard about this from a gas station attendant at WaWa after work yesterday.
It will be interesting to see where it goes. |

The article was posted on the Navy Times website yesterday.
Petty officer charged in sex assault of recruit 2 Questions though: 1. When is a recruit ever off duty? 2. Why would a CC ever put themselves in the position where this may ever come up with a recruit at all? |

That was my only thought as well, but again, you would have to question the judgement of a Company Commander who would put themselves in that posistion where there might even be possibility of accusations of this nature being made. There has to be way more to the story. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. |

"going to talk and cause suspicion..." |
I would guess there wasn't a third party present so good luck finding out what really happened. The again, he might have saved the stained dress he was wearing?

If it was November, it could've been Operation Fireside (recruits go to sponsor homes for turkey day).

I was thinking at first that if the recruit could even identify the CCs house, then guilty as charged. THEN I thought about the month that was reported. There are some programs during the holidays that differ from the rest of the year. (Ya know, the kids getting a real holiday dinner). So, I guess I will have to wait for more info.

"The recruit's gender and name have not been released."
How many genders are acceptable at Cape May? |

I won't comment on the investigation but I was just wondering why, when an officer is charged with a violation and is being investigated, we never hear why, but whenever an enlisted person is investigated, their dirty laundry is aired.

Your not referring to the old brass double standard now are you?? Things like that don't exist, we have ethics training, and human relations councils, and the sort that prevent that sort of thing from happening. Why, that could just never be.

Straight and to the point! |
I don't think everyone's dirty laundry gets aired it is just that a bunch think they have superior knowledge and they are better than most so they figure they are always right and assume that there assumptions are correct. Most of the time when these "run your name thru the mud" threads start its all total assumptions. They also believe everything the crappy reported wrote and then include there 2 cents into the crap that there brain is pumping out. This Coastie may be guilty/innocent all day long but once certain clowns on Freds Place see a story about one of our own they think its there duty to "report" it to the rest of us. But hey who am I to talk I only have just under 15 years in and haven't made LT yet.

Is it really necessary to slap a name in the paper at this time?? Say He is cleared of all charges...possible...not likely but possible, then he not only has the personal stigma but now the whole CG has his name on their lips as the new butt of a joke.

Scotty - the original post contains a link to an Atlantic City Newspaper article about the incident. What do you think? I suspect (but haven't seen it) that this will eventually feed to one of the 24 hour news networks and on-line. Do you feel that millions of people viewing that news item will be more or less judgemental and critical about the incident?

A bad day on the water beats a good day at the office. |
The article notes that the Article 32 hearing (on April 2) is open to the media; as the training center spokesperson says, "We want this to be transparent and open on how the military works."

If this is true, it pretty strongly indicates this has been proferred for Court Martial. Not sure why you would open the Article 32 to the media though. T |
