A thread being locked before it "becomes innundated [sic] with inappropriate comments".

Nice. Now we not only have censorship, we now have friggin prophylactic censorship.

Unbelievable.

Used to be, if someone continually posted pure idiocy time and time again, one could refer to said poster as an "idiot". Et cetera. If you had your facts straight, feel free to fire a shot across the bow, then a few into the pilothouse. Made for some interesting, pertinent and passionate discussions.

No more. Play nice is now the extremely well-enforced rule. These "discussions" have been watered down to nothing but milquetoast crap. "Warm and fuzzy Coast Guard stories" indeed.

Too bad, this used to be a pretty interesting forum.

CDR. Wheeler,

With your experience in Polar Ops, what is your take on the Russian's claims to the Artic, and what to do see as the American response, and what should the CG do in response to possible Russian attempts to "pirate" US resources of the North Slope?

Thanks.

Jack

Jack,

Take a look at the history of Wrangel Island--the one above Siberia for the complications of claims to the Polar Region.

You don't like it guys then you be a moderator, e-mail the forums administrator and sign up. The pay is really great, the benefits are awesome, and the respect from shipmates for trying to maintain some degree of decorum around here is overwhelming.

Since the first response to the original post on that thread was way out in left field, I can only imagine what the rest of them are going to look like.

Since you are unhappy about it I will go back and reopen it....at the next sign of the thread deteriorating into what it will more then likely become I will close it again. Other then that, whether you stay or leave, it doesn't matter to me; and Steve, your knowledge, comments, and "wisdom" would be missed if you left but that is your choice.

Tim: the folks here are sophisticated enough to realize that was a set up by Sac Metal with that
response to my starting the thread on VADM Papp and Capt Triner. It was to post a response like that so it would lead to you pulling the plug on that thread. We are sophisticated here enough to realize there is a malicious censorship methodology implemented here.

AJ - your post is the biggest crock I've ever read on this topic. "Malicious censorship methodology?" That's rich. If that were the case then according to you none of your Deepwater posts would be allowed. If I pull the plug on a thread I do so all on my own; as a moderator I am allowed to do that.

WRT your post about the admiral and the captain, what specifically is the point you are making? Anyone can post a link to an article but since this point/counterpoint - what's your point?

I am locking this thread for no apparent reason. If someone wants a reason, feel free to email me since my reason will be the same in that I dont have one. If anyone questions why this thread is locked, that thread will get locked. And any thread that questions why I locked the questions about my locking a thread thread, that too will get locked.

Kidding, nothings getting locked, just a little humor here folks, come on now.

I don't have any experience with polar ops. I saw plenty of ice in Sault Ste. Marie when I was stationed there though. It was a border town and aliens crossed daily. I hear the weather is much gentler in the Soo these days.

Your name looks somewhat familiar. When were you at the Soo? My brother ran the Naugatuck there in the late 70's.

A moderator must moderate with moderation. Although, when a moderator does not moderate with moderation then he is not moderating. Applause
