So um, Wray? Riding your new ride much now? How does Liza like it?

BTW, I think I mentioned that we're coming down in August...DH has a conference in Orlando. I do have to make a side trip to have lunch or dinner with my folks over on the Gulf side but other than that...

Oh and he made mention last night that maybe we can extend his Biketoberfest leave and ride down to Key West!! AHEM!! Put in for your vacations now!! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

you may want to check with them prior to showing up...probably won't be there.

...and check with us before showing up, as you stated so eloquently before, "oh you're one of those" people. I've never heard you really tongue-tied before when you found out we fulltime in our RV.

but if yer in the area on 4 August, check out our CG Day downtown JAX.

LOL I know what you're saying; gotta check their relocation status; evenso, if they still are there, I'm going to go see them. Last time didn't work out for neither of us. Frown

I just never thought, in a million years, that you'd trade your two-wheeler for a four, six, eight, ten wheeler with walls. Big Grin Big Grin I hope you get to saddle up soon. I know your bride would probably love it. Smile

Wray, see if you can make the jaunt down to the Keys. I can see us now. Parking the bikes for the night, drinkin' umbrella drinks to tunes of Kenny Chesney by the pool. OH WAIT!! We can do that at YOUR HOUSE!! ROFLMAO Beer Razz

Geeze, that's the way the women looked as I left several bars back in the "ice breaking" days aboard CAPSTAN....

It was the 7AM that was the real shocker...

Why do I feel a comment will be coming from "Socially Autistic"

Hey Kidz, any of you riding lately? We've got some terrific weather this week. Beer Applause I worked my ars off doing chores around the house in the past week so I can go do the PGR escort for the Wall That Heals (today) and we're going up to Cinci this weekend to go honor Matt Maupin (sad) with the PGR. Today it's supposed to get up to 80; better pack the saddlebags with extra H2O and sunscreen. Something to keep in mind in the hotter months is to stay hydrated and use sunscreen protection.

The sad thing is, when the riding weather gets so good that ALL of the 'fair weather riders' make their way out on the roads, stupidity seems to prevail. I'm now seeing flip flops, sandals, short shorts, bikini tops, wife beaters, etc. again on bikes; it makes me cringe! While I'm sure guys think thats cool that the girls look delicious but those are the morons who are driving up the cost of my insurance each time they lay one down. I wish there was a way that my insurance company could reward me for being safe and taking every precaution possible to keep me upright and keep my skin on.

I finally found a mesh jacket to wear in the summer and hot months. I did extensive research on what to wear in the very hot months to protect my upper body and the reviews point positively to those mesh textile jackets. I can't wait to get mine to try it out. So if you see a chick in a bright pink jacket on a blue Fatboy; that'll be me! Big Grin Big Grin (for you guys, they DO sell other colors ROFL)

Question: why are male salesmen in bike shops taken aback when a serious lady rider comes in and KNOWS what she is looking for? Why is it they instantly pick something out and say 'oh, this will look cute on you' (and it looks smaller than a Chuawaua sweater). LOL I'm like 'SHUUUUT UUUUP Already!' LOL Do you guys really know how difficult it is to find motorcycle clothes for CONSERVATIVE women RIDERS?? Hmmmm, maybe that could be my calling? I always wanted to be a fashion designer Razz LOL

I learned to ride in 1973 when I was a QM on the Taney. There were no MSF (monopoly) courses back then. The guy who taught me to said if one makes it six months without an incident he's doing ok. I did take the course in 1994 just for the heck of it. Most of what I learned was, 'So that's why I've been doing that!' I had my oldest son take the class when he was 17. He's 20 now and got his first bike last year.

A question. If I ride to visit my son, I can't ride on base with him because my card when thru the wash a couple years ago? That's BS. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for safety. I wear safety gear all of the time. You should hear the cracks I get from my HD neighbors. I gave my son a FirstGear Mesh-Tech jacket for summer riding last Christmas. Don't tell me to take the class again. Here in Ohio the day the list goes up in January is booked by the following day. No one else can offer a class because it is copyrighted by MSF. I'm glad that the military is taking an active role in offering the classes but it does me no good since I'm not retired from the CG. And even if I was, the are no major bases around here.

Again, I'm glad the military (all branches) take such a proactive approach to MC training. But answer me this. Why don't they make it mandatory for four-wheelers to take a mandatory course to drive on base? Especially one that emphasizes motorcycle awareness.

Just for sheets and giggles, click here. I see at least 7 different Harley Dealers that offer the course in Ohio. (Kind of surprised there were that many dealer in OH!)

A hint: Drive your cage to the dealer, look around at a few bikes. When the salesman approaches you, tell them you are thinking of buying one of their Harleys, but you would really like to take a MSF course first. You just might be surprised how many 'openings' there are in the courses!

...and another reason: So far this FY, there have been 40 reported MC MISHAPS, across all levels, in LANT alone. One was hit by a drunk while waiting to make a left turn. One was whalloped by an exploding tire driving down the interstate and one was hit from behind at a stop. The other 37 involved the operators mishandling of their vehicle (24 of those were single vehicle accidents).
So - the data pretty clearly shows that "MC Awareness" is a minimal problem. This is not evident only in LANTs mishap, but nationwide! The urban myth that 'the cager' is what is the most dangerous thing out there is CRAP! The mush that is being protected by the helmet is the most dangerous thing out there in most cases!

The inexperienced over zealous right hand is the single largest contributing factor to many of these scooter wrecks. The Brits and Aussies have a pretty good system for obtaining a motor cycle endorsement. They have a graduated qualification process where you have to start out on a smaller bike and do intervals of time befor being allowed to upsize. I believe it goes 250cc, 500cc, 750cc, then unlimited. In the USA any teen / twenty year old kid with an endorsement can go purchase a sportbike that will break into the 9's on the quarter mile and go 180MPH. Few at that age have the aptitude, experience, or restraint to safely operate a cycle with this much performance potential.
Cheers! Beer

The HD Rider's Edge program is separate from the state programs. Priority is always given to buyers of new bikes, and priority within that priority is given to new rider buyers of new bikes.

After months of work, it's almost ready for riding!

My Yamaha XS1100SG (1980)

I spent the afternoon putting on the new Jardine 4 into 1 exhaust and then rebuilding the fuel petcocks and mounting them. Man, I'm sore!
