is it legal for business to photocopy your military id card? i know for medical reasons it ok but what about, lets say hotels, dmv offices, etc.

I think that only applies if we declare war on the business, and the business happens to take POWs.

The OP may be thinking of the Privacy Act.

But the Privacy Act doesn't apply because you provided them the ID Card.

If you provide the military ID as a form of ID (even to get a military discount)you've opened the door.......

First question is whether they want to copy both sides or just the front side. Since the SSN is on the back I'm not sure what the problem would be with them copying the front only.

If it is a hotel or other business that insists on copying both sides, you could always tell them you will take your business elsewhere.

As for DMV's, check with your state but I think most of them accept other forms of identification such as a DL from another state, birth certificate or passport.
