Just curious . I'm in the CG Aux for now trying to do as much direct CG support as possible until I move from Seattle or figure out what I want to do in life. How bout others...where are you stationed, from, do in the CG, and want to do with your future?
You can normally just click on someones name and find out everyplace they were stationed (at least those to want others to know). I've been 2 places were the aux were VERY involved. Ohio river (and it's tribs) and the great lakes. Good luck
Haha thanks ...it's currently raining but what keeps the PNW green. It's not a bad place as we have most everything you would want to do, either inside or out, and driven smart people who make things happen beyond all the hippies . I just wish it was a little warmer at times in the winter where I live (while still snowing in the mtns) and closer to the ocean but other than that it's a good place. We also have a good amount of both fresh and salt water which is what I love and why we have a couple of CG bases throughout. The Seattle area will always be my home but I hope to travel, see the world and it's people, which is partially why I posted...so I can learn from all of you . -Kim
Oh, c'mon Chief....better then some of the Far East ports?
Well maybe Hong Kong could be #1,its been so long ago I amost forgot about it, and Japan was pretty good way back when, Cat Lo/Vung Tau was ok except you had to watch ye back while drinking brews.
From Seattle, you literally can go around the world as a Coastie. If you're familiar with the base downtown, we have cutters that support a variety of missions beyond the "rainy" environs of the Emerald City.
I was lucky enough to draw my last two years on the CGC Polar Sea out of Seattle, and got to visit (in between all the work inherent in such a cutter) Hawaii, Australia and McMurdo Station, Antarctic. The younger folks seemed to enjoy the adventure, and even the work.
But there's a broad spectrum of Coast Guard out there for such a small armed force that we are. Coming on here is a good idea to sound out opinions and experiences for some of that wide variety of duty stations, but try to find an opportunity--may be tougher from a security standpoint these days--to visit some of the stations, bases, and afloat units and talk to the folks on those units working day in and day out.
