For me, I have several.
1)Sector Key West (after changed name from Group) 2)CGC Nunivak (after 123' conversion) 3)PATFORSWA 4)STA Apra Harbor, Guam (formerly Sector/Boatforces) I guess I have been lucky, although since three were not really new, I still got the title. |

cgbm2,
when were you on the nunivak? You know Bm1 coccito? |

Nope, it was right at the 123' conversion, we sailed it from New Orleans to St. Pete and realized it was a crummy boat. It was then sent to Savannah, to dry dock, I transfered, and it was decommed shortly after. 04-05

I'm going to stir up the pot by saying only cutters should be counted.
My planks: Commissioning - USCGC LIPAN Decommissining - USCGC LIPAN I was the only person on both commissioning and decommissioning crews, I had A School and three units in between. By the way, I actually have a box of planks so if anyone that was on the Lipan or Ute didn't get one, contact me. Commissioning - USCGC CONFIDENCE This was the 1988 recommissioning. |

I would agree with your first statement, but under that premise, it would rule out the last one. For the same reason that only ships should count, simply having been the subject of the CGs desire to save money on sea pay, etc by decoming a vessel during extended yard time, should not a plankowner be! By the way - I missed plankowner status on the LAST 205 by less than a year. I'll make a deal with you, if you got some planks that I can pull a 3/4 x 3/4 6 inch piece out of, I'll make you a pen out of one of them and send back. Shoot me an email at work philip.d.rolfe at you know where. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mightyz90_93, |

Shore unit's don't count... in my opinion

Ah, geez... I was waiting for that card to get played. I was hoping for hope against hope, but I'm afraid I was disappointed.

I'm confused....to be a "Plank-owner" of a 110' turned 123" do they post a photo on your certificate of the last 13' of the cutter? If they add more bedrooms to a berthing area at a Station, would you be a "Plank-Owner". Don |

Don;
No, they have all of the same 'rights and privelages' as a regular plankowner! (except that when the ship was decom'ed they were only allowed to remove article from the last 13 feet!) |

I'd want to own the plank that holds those things together. From what I hear, they didn't do too well after FRAM.
My brother was on the Padre back when it was still a 110' in Key West. Getting a bit off the topic....I give those WPB folks a lot of credit. One day, I visited my brother and got a tour of the Padre. I swear, just sitting there rocking at the dock, while on the bridge, I felt a tad bit sea sick. Unreal since my whole adult career as been on boats. Don |

Wray, let me translate -
The poster was hoping that on these boards a string about "being a plankowner" would not have comments about the legitamacy of certain designations - such as a simple name change of the unit. |
