Mods,

I offer this as mostly serious with a hint of sarcasm.

What do you think about having a forum just so folks can post all the negative events in the CG?.....RFC's, courtmartials, arrests, mishaps, acts of stupidity, etc.

After a while, it gets old seeing the frequent negative threads on P/CP. Sleeping How about a forum where something other than negative threads are the norm???? Beer

If you think P/CP would dry up if we started another forum just for the negative and ugly....maybe that's saying something and some self-reflection is in order!

I can't speak for others, but that's my take as of late............ Big Grin

Master Chief

I hear where your coming from. I would have to reply that the tone of this forum might reflect the tone of society. You cant turn on a TV without seeing the latest news on some murder, some raped college student, the latest Britney child custody dispute, or some disaster somewhere. The media force feeds it because the public craves it. Just my thoughts, but these forums reflect some of the same things.

There are positive threads here on occasion, we have all seen them. One of my favorites is the posters who ask members why they joined, or what they have seen. Those threads seem to maintain course and speed as threads that everyone seems to enjoy. I believe if anyone is really looking for non-depressing stories now, your best bet is to head to the Sports forum.

I wouldnt loose hope, good news and a positive thread will make it back here. Would you believe that I counted 23 bald eagles at a Lake in Cordova AK once? I wouldnt have counted one if I hadnt been stationed there.

Too frequent is the popularity of people wallowing in the misfortunes of others.

I only remember one thread that could be described as 'misfortunes of others,' and that thread was full of compliments and good words to that person, who happened to have the courage to AGAIN step in front of his shipmates.
Most of the other threads, the discussions were centered around the MISTAKES and POOR CHOICES and ERRORS of others. Misfortune implies, at least, some sense of hapenstance or luck. In many cases discussed, the only hapenstance or luck was involved with how the person got CAUGHT for their poor behavior or choices.

So true. But then again, if it was anything less, we wouldn't be human. Or at least human in todays standards. Frown

Try a spin through the "Breaking Ice" thread in P/CP.

Refreshing Coast Guard memories with no negative rambling or bickering! A job well done by all involved over there.

My wife seems to enjoy my misery. If I fall, she laughs, if I bleed, she laughs. I think its quite cruel, and she laughs at that too. The only thing she didnt laugh about was a month ago when she found out she was pregnant again. I laughed though, after a short crying stint. I blame that on shell shock.

Threads and discussion boards for screw-ups? That would be cool. But only those using their real name should be able to post on it! My first mast was for hazarding the safe navigation of Pearl Harbor. I was a SNBM at the time, I did not know I had the power to hazard anything. I got off, and what goes around comes around. Seems a few months later they found a couple of ounces of dope in the locker of the guy that booked me.

I went to mast for throwing beer bottles at the 1st LTs wife as a BM3. Me and two other guys. The investigating officer misunderstood some things I said, and off to mast all three of us went.

I lost a paygrade and was restricted for 15 days. Apparently the PIO missed the statement the victim (wife) wrote where she named the TWO guys who did it. One district appeal later, the case was overturned, and I got everything back. Wish I could have claimed overtime for the restricted duty. Anywho, that case put a bad taste in my mouth for Article 15 events. Dont read things into it please, you look really foolish when the District Commander overturns one of your masts.

District did rip me a new one in the reply though. Apparently you dont say "This is a bunch of BS" right after the XO has you sign the 4910. Now that I think about it, being falsely accused of one thing or another seemed to be a trend for me. I cant figure out why.

I'm sorry to hear that. I believe his first name was Ron. Short guy in excellent shape. Served with and was good friends as well with Rod Taylor who was also an AD Chief at Sitka while I was there. We had a wild crew at Sitka during the late 70's. I hope it's someone else.

Peace,
Dick

This guys name was Bob or Robert. Ron Wood sounds like the Rolling Stones guy.

I'm going to have to throw a tiny yellow flag on that observation.

The Coast Guard discussion site is an anathema.

We're the smallest service, yet have the most posts by a long way on these forums:

97389 - posts do date.

Why this is not a "relection of society" is that it is a very small group of people that post here.

One member - ONE - is responsible for over 10% of the posts on the CG forum! I'll let you figure out who that is, but his initials are WG.

The top 50% of posts are being made by no more than 14 people!

You can hardly take 14 guys and call it a cross section of society.

The point is, we are a VERY strange bunch.

I gotta question the intent of someone that would take the time to do the math associated with the above post. Why would anyone sit down and calculate the names of the top 14 posters on the CG site. Of course, 97.825% of all statistics are made up... Big Grin

O.K. It took about half a econd to figure out that a guy with 12,000 posts is responsible for over 10% of approximately 100,000 posts. I didn't even need a pencil for that. You (Disagreed) - again without a pencil - get about an 8% chunk of the total.

Hey - watch this - between you and WG, the both of you spend more time posting than 60% of the entire Navy!

It is what it is, my friends. We are strange for even being here.

ASM3 - I'm with you. Its interesting because of the freaks, not in spite of them.

The numbers would be more more exclusive if you were able to capture previous posts under other posting names and add them to the current numbers.
