Is there any exception to the Honor Guard 6'0" requirement for males?

I imagine it's case by case like it was when I was there. When the HG couldn't fill billets we did go below the standard 6 foot to keep our ranks filled, never liked doing it but it was an easy decision when choosing between Honoring our fallen or having the Navy do it cause we were to short handed. The petty officers don't always meet the 6 foot rule either.

During my time as the Chief of the Honor Guard, an exception would only be made if an individual was extremely squared away, highly recommended and as close to six foot as you could be without making it. The ceremonial shoes would be modified to make someone six foot anyway if needed. If you are close and have the desire to be an Honor Guardsman-go for it. It will be the most memorable time of your life.

Does the Honor Guard recruit from current units? I am non-rated, at an Air Station right now but may be PCSing from there in about a month due to some special circumstances. I have 5 years Honor Guard experience with another service but I fall just a bit short of the 6 foot requirement. I'd actually like to make Petty Officer while at the Honor Guard if that was a possibility. Is there a recruiter point of contact specifically for the Honor Guard?

itmays,
During my 8 years at the HG I only remember ever recruiting one non-rate from out side of recruit training and that was a prior service SN who was striking YN and he came to the HG to fill a PO billet not a SN billet. But if your really interested contact HSC Walt Isom the current Chief of the HG.
