Have you contacted the UDC about this and asked them?

Might not want to let the uniform nazis' get a look at that. A topic of discussion a while ago was about the fact that you are not authorized to tailor the untucked ODUs. May just have to get used to looking like a sort of Joe Schmo the rag man.

I mean I look kinda like a army or marine, its not fitting but it wears like there uniforms where. i dont like it restricting anyways. but i am 6'2" and 275 and workout so I am not exactly built like the guys who are a runners build.i figure I will get yelled at for being to loose or for tailoring it. reminds me of a saying we all know

There is still time before the next CG Uniform Baord meets. Might want to think about preparing a submission for consideration of ODU matters that are not just black or white. Can't hurt.

Check with your LPO or Chief.

Can anyone tell me why the CG didn't just take a proven uniform that the Army or Marine Corp wear, color it blue, slap an emblem on it and call it good? Why reinvent the wheel?

On the third wash of a pair of new ODU pants, i had a belt loop fall off. RIDICULOUS! Not to mention that their was enough loose threads to sew an additional ODU shirt. These uniforms are more comfortable, however they are terribly sloppy looking, especially the ODU top, which you can't tailor. We all look like we are wearing maternity shirts.

Well i sent a message to the commandant on his facebook page. see what happens, and you read my mind, just die the army, marine and air force even the new navy uniforms dark blue, let them spend the ir money on all thetesting and research and say thank you we will take those in all dark blue, if thats true and I will find out tomorrow about the tailoring then wow I am going to look huge in my new odu top. like i said i am at 50 extra long and its still tight on the arms, not the chest or stomach just the arms, maybe i will post a pic.

Here's a novel thought.....have a shirt that is a different color (shade) than the pants and you won't need to worry about color mismatches. And get away from DARK colors as they will always fade.

Do something weird, like dungarees and a chambray shirt. Big Grin

At the risk of sounding like the 5,000 year old man Wink, what are ODU's? I'm guessing they are a uniform type, how long has the rank and file been wearing them?
Yes, it is good to be retired!
Hey, anyone recall the "gas station attendant" work uniform from the early 70's...

I'm with you on both of those, Stan.

Being "different" is not always the best idea, and when all our enlisted uniforms were the same as Navy uniforms (with inexpensive modifications), we didn't know how well off we were.
Shortly after I made Warrant, the "Bender Blues" came along & I went to a CG Exchange to buy a new set of shoulder boards. Imagine my joy when I found that a CG W-2 paid roughly the same as a Rear Admiral for a set of Shoulder boards (About three times the price for a LT).

The ODU is the operational dress uniform. It replaced the working blue uniform. It gives us COASTIES...uh, I mean Guardians, a more military look. We had a tucked in version and now, obviously, we have an untucked version which will be in full effect by 2012, if memory serves me correct.

Not too sure if I can do this, but here is the link. <blog.militaryuniformgouge.com/2008/08/16/uscg-untucked-operational-dress-uniform-odu.aspx>

Beacuse adopting an already existing and proven design from our DOD counterparts would prove to be a real weak OER bullet as that O wouldn't be able to show what he / she "implimented and changed"

0800 CALLED UDC: no special order untucked blouses, still haveing a hard enough time getting the untucks, dont forsee it in future///can i tailor it then/// let me check///um best case scenario we suggest is order 2 shirts, one with the correct arms that fit you and the other with the correct torso that fits you, cannabilize the arms that fit and have them remounted on the blouse that fits/// $30 + $30+20-30 more + equals me just wearing the oversize blouse shrink it down and never roll up the sleeves, atleast until the cg can provide a better uniform service... rant numero 2 why o why dont we atleast have one of each size pants shirts male/female in the exchanges to atleast be able to try on, especially when the order to receive dat is quoted at 12 to 21 business days, wooow that red bull just kicked in

Amazing that all of the other services just use XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL with corresponding lengths of XS/S/R/L/XL for all of their field uniforms... Smile
