SEALS to GUARDIANS. Too much to handle in such a short period of time.

Mabwood: I like that, we need a bumper sticker like that. I don't usually put stuff like that an my car but I would proudly use that

This is kinda like the overall of everything in the Army into the "Warrior Ethos" so that every pay clerk feels like a Soldier.... I always felt it was like they wanted all soldiers to pretend to be Marines with their "Every Marine a Rifleman" bit.

I can see it now, in the same spirit of a recent Army recruiting campaign...

"Coastal Guardians"

I love it!

My vote remains for Hooligan.

Cut your "steaming time," fly Red Tail Airlines!

I'd be just a little bit embarrassed at so transparently trying to link the Coast Guard to a so-so movie. It sort of implies that the CG didn't really have an identity of it's own before Kevin Costner gave it one.

Couldn't someone have at least busted open a thesarus? For example, other good synonms would be defender, protetor, or sentinel.

Personally, I did not see what was so bad with being a "sailor" let alone a "coastie". Guardian as a nickname conjures up images of ad execs contracted by the Coast Guard to come up with a better moniker to "connect with the kids".

I will know it has overall approval when CoastieChicks.com changes to GuardianChicks.com. Smile

The wife told me to point out it's CoastieChicks.net, unless we have a competing GuardianChicks.com site in the works.

Ya know I've been wondering.. The name of the MCPOCG is "Charles W. Bowen" --- however many times when I see an article with his name in it, it is written Charles "Skip" Bowen Eek

That makes me wonder.. how did he get the nickname "Skip" ?? Did he give it to himself? Sounds like a peanut butter to me.... (he said Coastie sounds like a breakfast cereal") -- can we call him "Skippy"?

I also wonder if ADM Allen has a nick name as well.... "Thad W. Allen" -- I wonder what it is.. or should be... perhaps since he made one up for the Coasties of the world, turn about is fair play.

Wray... Cool

Wray,

Those are good questions. "Skippy" sounds good to me.

For the Commandant; how about "Willie" or "Billy" or "Chip"? His father is/was Clyde Allen, DCC, USCG, Retired.
