I think it gets pushed more by the younger chiefs who need something to say so they can try and gain some respect. Cause every salty dogg Chief I've spoken to has said "I'm a Coasties Dammit!"
I turned in an evaluation for one of my E-4's and stated that he was an "Outstanding Coastie", guess what the young chief did...ran a line threw it and wrote "Guardian".
My thing is if you want it to change you can't expect it to be over night...you gotta give people time to get used to it.

I've been around a few "forced" changes in my life. If it doesn't fit it never really gets adopted, no matter how much time goes by. Guardian is just too pretentious.
It truly is pretentious. I think of the word Guardian and I immediately think of Christopher, Gabriel, Michael... Guardian Angels. Guardian sounds... wayyyyyy to Hollywood. If Coasties wanted to use that term and have it stick, they should have started BEFORE the movie came out, not afterwards. I certainly DO NOT want to be associated with Ashton Kutcher and Punk'd.
As I walked into one of my favorite watering holes the other day one of the Gents sitting at the bar said "there's that old Coastie". Kind of made me feel good. So good I bought myself a beer.
I don't look anyhting like Costner or Kutcher so I'm going with COASTIE. It's sounds more humbling. Guardian comes off as too self righteous and sounds like a spoof from Marvel comics.
