Just a few factoids. Jesse Ventura was not a SEAL. He was a member of UDT 11 or 12. At that time SEALS and UDT were still separate entities and did not combine until around 1983. Though he did serve as a reserve member of ST 1, which allows him to use the SEAL title as per NSWC policy.

IIRC, he also never saw action in Vietnam, but did serve in the AO. Had he actually been in combat he would have received a Combat Action Ribbon which he doesn't have.

NOTE: Having just read the opinion of a noted retired Navy SEAL Captain it would appear that he can right claim being a SEAL even though at the time of service in Vietnam he was assigned to UDT 12. However, there is no evidence that he saw "combat" in Vietnam. He does have the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Directly from Authentiseal

In the entire history of the Naval Special Warfare community there have only been slightly over 10,400 men who have served in “operator” billets; this number includes approximately 2,200 men who are currently serving on active duty. This total number of “operators” includes all of the men who ever served with the various units that were precursors to today’s SEAL Teams, going all the way back to the earliest days of WWII and the Naval Amphibious Scouts and Raiders (S&R), the Naval Combat Demolitions Units (NCDUs), the Underwater Demolition Units (UDUs), and the Underwater Demolition Teams (UDTs).

I agree and was not trying to belittle him or his service.

Find a picture of him with any of those hats he wore while wrestling. I'd bet only a true SEAL could dress like that and not get beat to death!
