posts latley by annonymous members asking questions such as "how many K9 teams does the USCG have and where are they located?" "Where do the 270's out of portsmouth patrol and how long are they gone for?" Etc. Not that you need to hear it from me, but just a reminder to all -Jeff
We have annonymous members? I noticed these a while ago but not recently. Of course I just logged on so maybe there are soem I haven't seen yet. If these pop up I thinkthe MODS should just selete them. EM1
Hmmm! Well, Buzzards Point is looking for any excuse to block the www.forums.military.com domain from the SWS-III network. Perhaps this is the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Wray...
While I was moderating these boards a couple of years ago. While visiting the Military.com home office in San Franciso and talking with the Web geeks (network engineers), they let me in on a few dirty secrets that open forums such as this was none too popular with the powers that be in Washington. Open communication makes it harder for the big shots to B.S. the troops out in the field.
To be sure, there are many higher-ups at CGHQ that enjoy and are able to measure the thoughts of the field through these forums. But others, who see open communication as a potential source of embarassment for the service, would rather have these boards blocked from accessability of on site CGSW-III networks.
Mark; I am not to sure about that. Obviously, I am one of the HQ people. Another MC or two are also on here. I get more crap from Wray than anyone at HQ! I do get crap from FAW, but that 'cause he always happens to stop by my desk when I am responding to someone!
Wray: Look at the time stamp - this one is from home!
Recently someone was inquiring about (on the LE Board) about AMIO Ops. Ask some direct questions - had a private (blocked) profile. A little research found he had an e-mail address from Singapore...locked the thread. I have noticed some anonymous postings that center on Operations lately...e-mail links to me when you find them and I will do what I can to block and lock...
Phil, I am impressed.. I don't think I have ever seen you on here at night...
Mark I have talked (within the last 3 months) to a "flag officer".... He told me he and several others like, and want people to use military.com.... He said he gets much info from here on what the troops think & need. (I must say... he apparently doesn't read the uniform thread)...
As with many things, the "surfing" may get out of control, with much wasted time things may come to an end, but perhaps not with ADM Allen. Phil, that is not just you, or people at HQ.. It is done by everyone, at just about every unit. Many people are on line all day long... (various sites) Is the CG business being taken care of? I don't know, and really don't care.
I do not think blocking the site would be hard to do it they wanted to... I tried to get on Freds place once from work (VA) but, it was blocked by their filters.... I had been in touch with someone that wanted me to start a retired chapter here, but, since Fred won't let me post on his site I declined.
As said, the meeting took place about 2 years ago when I was moderator and when there was a different Commandant and largely different HQ staff. Still, at that time, there were many in leadership that was hostile to the Military.com forums.
If today's staff is welcoming to open communications, than all the better.
