Up until a few years ago, the California public schools couldn't have a non-attendance holiday on "Good Friday" (because of the religious connoation). They got around this restriction by giving the students off on "the Friday of Spring Recess" (typically the week before Easter).
In a Hawaii case in 1991, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that calling the holiday "Good Friday" was okay because there was no religious motivation. Rather it was observed just to add more holidays to the holiday calendar, not for the reason of giving people the time off to participate in religious ceremonies -- and therefore not breaching the establishment clause of the Constitution.
So, I think saying "Merry Christmas" is okay, so long as you mean it in a secular way.
We don't give gifts we wrap cheap stuff and play a game with dice. I buy bonds for the great grands every Christmas and on their birthdays. We, as a family enjoy being with one another because they have jobs to go to 6 days a week.
I'm sure you meant to say "Happy Holidays" but I am willing to forgive you, this one time only.

With that said, I wish all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season
Over the past week, I have been Santa three times (one more coming on Christmas Eve for the entire village). Having my granddaughter in the kindergarten class and being asked to come in as Santa concerned us, however, after staring at me from the time I entered the room and having her in my lap, she whispered, "I would like a bike and I know you're the real Santa." She told Rocky, her grandmother, that at first she thought the voice sounded like Opa, but when Santa said, "Ho, ho, ho!" she knew it wasn't me. I lower my voice when I'm Santa. Afterwards, she came down to my class in the high school (I had changed back to my "teaching duds") and asked another teacher and me whether or not we had seen Santa because she had seen the "real Santa." If that doesn't make you believe in Santa, nothing will!
Merry Christmas to all! And for those of you who are not Christmas celebrants, Happy Holidays!

I knew it wouldn't take long for the religion police to get in here and remind you not to say Christmas. I'm so sick of these a-holes. Start a post wishing everyone a happy ramadan and I guarantee you they'll have nothing to say.
Mery Christmas and happy Holidays to everyone at Freds Place. During the past 13 years I have had the opportunity to be part of a new England tradition called the Flying Santa Friends of Flying Santa filling the role of Santa delivering gifts to children of CG Stations and lighthouses. This dates back to 1929 and is a non profit organization making the holidays brighter for the children. CWO Tom Guthlien has also been filling the role as three days of flying are needed as each child is called up by name and sits on Santa's lap telling him what they want. This year there will be over 32 stops from Jones Beach to Jonesport, ME. This is all through donations and private helos and pilots.

Sorry, I can't find the post(s) you're talking about.
Each and every one of them either wishes a "Merry Christmas," or makes fun of the movement to have people not use the words.
Dave, I think that was Christmas 1970... 14 Foot Bank Light in Delaware Bay... The pants were compliments of Cape May (boot camp), but the loafers were mine...
