What? Perhaps you might want to consider your post if you are looking for people to know and or comment on it. I have no clue as to what your problem is?

I think he's talking about Joe Pesci and drive-thrus:
quote:
And I'll give you two guys, a friendly piece of advise, ok? Don't ever go up to the drive-thru, ok? Always walk up to the counter. You know why? Ok, ok, ok, ok. They **** you at the drive-thru, ok? They **** you at the drive-thru. They know you gonna be miles away before you find out you got ****ed, ok? They know you're not gonna turn around and go back. So, they don't care. Who that's ****ed? Oh, Leo Getz. Ok, sure. I don't give a ****. I'm not eating this tuna, ok?

There aren't. They are extended service awards. Roll Eyes

Bingo...sorry for the lack of info and enthusiasm on this one. Sleeping

Walking away from three years of intensity and not getting anything (they aren't even doing plaques anymore...) is a real bummer. None of it makes sense to me. Not trying to be arrogant, but I had at least two 7's on my marks every marking period, yet they say I didn't go above and beyond my every day duties. I guess JOOD duty coordinator, ISSO, cleaning up streets in Costa Rica, assisting with the ship's e-magazine "RUSH Hour", starting up the 1PO Mess, rebuilding our rec-decks, etc., etc. were all part of my "regular" duties. Roll Eyes

Edgykatid hits it home too. IT's are in the shadows. Smoke and mirrors I suppose.

I guess the thing I wanted to bring to light is that we need to recognize our people promptly. Don't wait for someone else to do it. Leadership isn't a game, it's a necessity. And for some reason, our cutters have the worst leadership in the CG.

In closing....they really do "**** you at the drive thru!" Big Grin

Fred, just do your best and it will pay off for you in the end.. awards or no awards.... By the way, I was told by a former Group XO, the awards system is the most unfair in the CG.. Truer words were never spoken.

Trust me... Wink

Wray... Cool
P.S. I made E-8 with a grand total of 4 ribbons on my chest.

Ribbons? Did they have them in the 60s and 70s?

Awards: Let me think about this. On one of the last cutters I was on the crew, not just the Eng. dept. gave me a giant dildo. They said I was one of the biggest pricks they ever served with. But they sure were proud to show off the engineroom to others. When you pushed the button everything started and ran and looked good. Guess not all awards can be warn as chest candy.

For what it is worth, Wray hits the nail right square on the head. The best reward will be three months down the line when someone on board recalls you with terms as "he was a helluva good shipmate/messmate" or "one of the best Petty Officers I ever worked for" or " I learned some great stuff from him " .

Those are the real awards/rewards. Good Job Petty Officer

I'll echo the others here shipmate..... You gotta find out how to reward yourself, or find what IS rewarding in your career. Expectating gratitude int he form of plaque/award, etc., seems to be an unreasonable expectation in some places. Make yourself a happier person and find your own rewards in what you do. Smile
